Laura Dern is 52 years old and is still killing it on the big screen! If you haven’t seen Marriage Storyyet it is a must! Noah Baumbach’sMarriage Storyshows us love and marriage through the lens of divorce, following the relationship of actress Nicole, played by Scarlet Johansson, and stage director Charlie, played by Adam Driver. They struggle through the divorce process as they are raising their son Henry, while living on oppositecoasts of the United States. This movie is phenomenally crafted in a way that grips your heart in its hands and allows you to feel the true, raw pain Noah brings to the screen. In a backstage interview for the SAG awards, captured by Variety, Laura Dern even calls it a “globally important film that’s really about community and considering others and through your own love stories.”

In this movie, Laura Dern plays Nora, the cutthroat divorce attorney for Nicole, who has to put on so many different faces on screen it is truly stunning. At times Nora will be a gentle and caring shoulder for Nicole to pour her heart out to and cry on, and at others she is a fierce and even diabolical lawyer who will do anything to give Nicole the best possible standing in the outcome of her divorce. Laura gives all the credit to the director in a backstage interview at the Golden Globes, captured by Variety, where she says, “it’s really a homage to Noah, I have never read a more perfect screenplay in my life.”

One of the most powerful moments in this movie that will take your breath away is Laura Dern’s monologue at the very end that deals with the societal pressures placed on men in comparison to women when it comes to raising children. In an interview with CBS News, Laura states that “I read the script, and I called Noah and got his voicemail and cried into his machine for about 10 minutes,” Dern said. “And when I read the monologue and called him, I said, ‘This is the greatest Christmas present I’ve ever received.’ If you get the chance, I highly recommend looking up that monologue because it is one of the most impactful speeches I have ever heard.

With her incredible role in Marriage Story, Laura Dern has won Best Supporting Actress in the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and SAG awards this year. She is also nominated for an Oscar, along with Scarlett Johansson (Jojo Rabbit), Margot Robbie (Bombshell), Florence Pugh (Little Women) and Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell). Although, she is up against some tough competition, she just might have it in the bag for winner of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar!
