Kid Cudi to Release Netflix Series Along with Solo Album in 2021

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

This past July, musician Kid Cudi announced the release of an upcoming album and paired Netflix series, Entergalactic. The album will act as the soundtrack to the animated adult series that Cudi will be writing, producing and starring in. According to Netflix, the show will follow a “young man on his journey to discover love.” This will be Cudi’s first solo project since 2016, leaving him with a lot of pressure and anticipation from fans. Cudi announced that the project would be released in a year, and Netflix has set the release date of the Entergalactic series as 2021. In an effort to comfort fans, the artist assured them that the wait will be worth it. “Entergalactic will be something you’ve never experienced. I promise it’ll be a fun ride. Lot[s] of good friends involved. Great songs too! The cast is coming together. I know a year from now seems like forever but it’ll be here before [yo]u know it,” he tweeted on July 22.

Kid Cudi, born Scott Mescudi, started rapping at the end of his high school career. He credits groups such as The Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest as his main inspirations. In 2004, he moved to New York to pursue a career in music. Kanye West signed the aspiring musician to his label imprint, GOOD Music, in 2008. This led to the release of Cudi’s debut single “Day n’ Night,” which reached the top five of the Billboard charts. Since then, the alternative hip-hop artist has released six solo albums and launched his independent record label, Wicked Awesome Records. He has also taken up a career in acting, having starred in shows such as One Tree Hill and Empire, and making his debut film appearance in the 2014 movie Need for Speed.

The “Pursuit of Happiness” artist released his last project, a joint album with Kanye West called Kids See Ghosts, in 2018. This album, long-awaited by fans, confronted the criticism and mental illness both artists have dealt with throughout their respective careers. With transparency and harmony, this duo takes listeners on a ride of acceptance and healing, giving those dealing with similar challenges a story of triumph and support. Many fans wonder if Entergalactic will address similar topics. It seems quite possible, being that Kid Cudi has addressed his emotions and his struggle with mental illness in his various other projects. “I’m damaged, I trust no one, sometimes I can be real mean…but handle with care, I’m so fragile and delicate,” he sings on his song “Handle with Care” from his fifth studio album, Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven. Based on the humble honesty he has displayed since the beginning of his career, fans can expect a raw, and in some ways relatable message from Entergalactic.

It is no surprise why fans are disappointed at the long wait they must endure before Cudi, a truly versatile and talented individual, releases his new project. In the meantime, you can stream his previous projects, which are available on all platforms, and follow the artist on Twitter and Instagram for the most recent updates!
