It’s that time of year again, Seminoles! Miracle Week, the kickoff to Dance Marathon, is here and that means we get the opportunity to come together as a student body to change and save lives. For those of you who don’t know, Dance Marathon is a yearlong effort “For The Kids.” This effort leads up to a 40-hour event where nearly 2,000 students pledge to stand on their feet to raise money and awareness. The event’s proceeds go directly to funding medical treatment and research for the Children’s Miracle Network, the FSU College of Medicine and UF’s Shands Children’s Hospital.

“We really want to work on Dance Marathon being a unified effort. We want to encourage and empower as many people as possible to help make a difference in these kids’ lives!” said DM External Events Chair Alex Jones. “We want the mission of Dance Marathon to be a year-long mindset, not just a 40 hour event.” Miracle Week is serving as the official kickoff of this yearlong mindset and the DM Team is more than excited to get things underway.

There will be two week-long periods where FSU students will have the opportunity to register to dance—one of them being Miracle Week. Miracle Week gives students countless opportunities to get involved in the cause and get empowered to help. The week kicks off with a dodgeball tournament Monday, September 28th followed by a share-it night at Pomberry and Cantina at FSU’s College Town. Quite possibly the most exciting event of the week, So You Think You Can Line Dance, will be held on Tuesday, September 29th at Encore and will be judged by the Miracle Families themselves. Several other events, such as a Chipotle share-it night (*cue the Hallelujah choir*), a Miracle day and more will fill this week of marvel.

Having raised over $1,000,000 last year, FSU’s Dance Marathon team is setting their goals high. Their biggest goal, however, is to bring awareness and passion to the cause. “Personally, I wouldn’t be who I am today without Dance Marathon. It has built me as a person and a leader. It’s crazy to me that I can wake up every day and be so passionate about a cause,” said Jones. “I want everyone to feel the way I feel. We’re saving lives and providing hope to families, and I want as many people as possible to experience this.”

To say that Dance Marathon has an impact on the lives of these children would be an enormous understatement. Collegiettes interested in joining in on the miracle-making can register to dance at the Miracle Week events or online. This year, Dance Marathon will be held at the Leon County Civic Center February 26-28. Visit the DM Website for more information on how to register to dance, donate or get involved #FTK.
