There is one way to know that fall has really come and that is with the change of the leaves. Nature gives us a very beautiful and straightforward way of entering us into the new season. With trees green leaves starting to lose their vibrancy changing into browns and reds and falling silently to the ground. The air also changes becoming crisp and twisting it’s way in between your clothes sending shivers down your back. But what if that doesn’t happen, how can you tell it’s fall?

To this I say pumpkins. Pumpkins are a big draw during the fall season. Every way you turn you can see, taste and smell them. So when your favorite coffee shop starts advertising pumpkin infused coffee you know the time is here. Pumpkins are not only in your food but they’re in any usable object. Your hand sanitizers, candles and air fresheners are propped up against windows to show now it is the time to get your hands on it all.

Speaking of pumpkins there is the event of Halloween to consider. Now like pumpkins, Halloween is a huge deal in determining when fall has begun. Have you heard anyone in your classes start to discuss what they are going to wear for Halloween? Or maybe where they are going to go? This is a great marker of entering the fall season. The dead give away however is not only do you hear talks of Halloween but you start to see decorations. Gravestones peeking out of windows, skeletons hung on doors. This here is the epitome of fall.

If these signs are not apparent to you yet though, the next thing to do is trust in yourself. I think we as humans must have an inner clock telling us when fall has neared; because before it has even hit 70 degrees Fahrenheit the warm clothes tucked into the back of the closet start coming out. Boots, sweaters and even a scarf or two are seen on people. If you see people start to wear these clothes, or you have the desire to wrap yourself in a cocoon of clothes be wary. This might mean fall is here.

Before you give up on figuring out if it’s fall or not, there is one more way to check it out. This method is not used often; I don’t even think it’s talked about a lot. Some people don’t find it that accurate so I would recommend the aforementioned methods. Okay so the way to check is to take a calendar, not the one on your phone, but a paper one and you flip through the months. In one of those months on one of those days you will see either the word ‘fall’ or words ‘start of fall’.  This year on my calendar the date is September 23rd.  Personally I go with calendar, but if you have any doubts check to see if there are any other indicators. If any of them check out then I’m glad to say happy fall to you.
