Let us talk about our best friends. No, not our “BFFs” as in the girls we go shipping with, go to the clubs with, or even eat a gallon of ice cream with. I am talking about our furry best friends. The four legged bundles of love and affection that constantly strive to be there for you at the end of the day. Our little babies that we could not even begin to imagine our lives without.
I am sure that you have been asked the question, “if you could have any superpower, what would it be?” at least once in your life. Without hesitation my younger self would always answer that I would want to be able to talk to animals. Now, however, when I give more thought to this statement, I am not 100% sure that talking to animals would be all that it is cracked up to be.
Most people that have pets understand what I mean when I say that this little fuzzy creature is the equivalent of a cuddly stress ball. I know when I am stressed, my first plan of action is to grab my hamster, Butterscotch, and hug her tightly until I feel better. But what if she could talk to me? What would she be saying?
Probably this….
“Mom. Stop.”
As much as we would like to believe that our pets are totally fine with being living stress balls and cuddle buddies, perhaps we only think this because they cannot tell us to back off a little. Let’s take a look into what animals would say if they could talk to us.
“What do you mean I’m not people? You tell everyone I’m your baby.”
“If I was bigger I’d tear you apart.”
“I’m Roz from Monsters Inc…..ALWAYS WATCHING!”
“Do you think this is a game?”
“Ladies?”
“What the h*ll are you wearing?”
“Humans can learn a lot from us.”
“Duuuuuuuudddeee. Catnip’s wack, man.”
“Maybe you should redo your makeup….it’s scaring me!”
Whether they are snarky, sarcastic, nice, or straight to the point, animals of every shape and size have a lot to say about us. From some of our favorite movies to just talking to your pet at home, we can all see how animals interact with us.
Perhaps it is because each and every one of us inherently wishes that we could talk to our fuzzy pals, but we can see that even Hollywood tries to put words in animals’ mouths. Some of my favorite movies that feature talking animals are Shrek, Milo and Otis, Planet of the Apes, Babe, Cats & Dogs:Revenge of Kitty Galore, and Charlotte’s Web. If you have not yet seen one of these movies I highly encourage you to check them out!
So maybe wishing that you had the superpower to talk to animals is one of those “be careful what you wish for” situations. I know I am just happy having my pets in my life, regardless of whether or not we can talk to each other out loud!
