What is “Manifesting,” you say? Well, I am glad you asked! Recently I figured out about the idea of manifesting your own destiny. It is described as when an individual is choosing thoughts that only align with your higher self. The idea is to learn how to create anything in your life. My friend is obsessed with this concept. See, I was skeptical at first because I am quite the superstitious individual- like the kind of gal who will hold their breath while driving past a graveyard or lifting their feet up when they drive over a railroad- so the idea of “manifestation” rubbed me the wrong way. My friend would always say things such as “This such thing is going to happen” and in my mind, she was just jinxing the hell out of us and I would always be tempted to burst into a full sprint towards the nearest piece of wood, just so I can knock on it. After my recent trip to LA, however, I am starting to really dig this whole idea of manifesting your destiny.

It all started when school was canceled last week for the hurricane and I texted my friend to see what she was going to do for safety. Our conversation went a little this:

Me: “Hey I just saw that school was canceled, do you know what you’re gonna do?”

Her: “Nah, I’m still in class but I am not sure!”

(She would go home, however, she is from the distant land of Connecticut).

I then joked about how we should go to California because that’s what we have been saying we’ve been wanting to do for a while now. Obviously, it was a ridiculous thought… or was it?

Me: Omg we should go to California hahaha

Me: …..wait

Me: Should we go to California?

And then it’s all history from there. She rushed home from class and we looked up plane flights. They were super expensive, so she started to manifest her way to some cheaper flights while I was on the other end telling her to stop jinxing us. Moments later her mom called and she had found two round plane tickets to California for just $200 for that same night. Those tickets were the last two tickets at that price and we ended up buying those tickets faster than you could say “Jinx!” If that wasn’t crazy enough, we didn’t want to spend more money trying to get our seats together, so we just hoped for the best. When we arrived at the airport we discovered that our seats were together somehow! And it just got better and better from here. Here are a few more manifestations that gave us the best trip of our lives:

We wanted to go and try to see a live talk show, so we applied to go sign up to see a Jimmy Kimmel Live show. We were not sure if we were going to get tickets, but we hoped, or dare I say, manifested, for the best. The next day we woke up to an email saying that we had received tickets to go see Jimmy Kimmel! If that wasn’t crazy enough, one of the workers there informed us that 150,000 people applied for the show we were going to and only 150 got tickets. We also got really amazing seats two rows back from the stage! After we saw Jimmy Kimmel we headed upstairs to see the live music performance. As we headed front row to see Portugal the Man, we were the cut off for the last two people to be front row for the band. Jimmy then announced the artist and me and my pal got a little debut on his Tonight show! Check out the picture below as we host the show with our bff Jimmy (we are the two smiling gals on the right clapping like our lives depended on it).

We then headed to an improv comedy show, tickets were also very limited, where we were put front row to see Adam Devine, one of the stars of the Comedy Central show, Workaholics. I kid you not, I was about a foot away from that man. I couldn’t take a picture because I would have gotten kicked out, however, my pal somehow ended up getting a picture of his backside so that’s good enough for me! Also, he made me laugh so hard I cried so I definitely recommend seeing him if you ever have the opportunity!

Another one of my favorite manifestations was when we planned a whole day in Malibu. The night before it decided to rain in Los Angeles for the first time in months, and we were worried that our beach day was going to be ruined. But you know what they say, a manifestation a day will keep those freak California, once-every-five-months, thunderstorms away! And the next day, it was so incredibly beautiful outside I couldn’t even believe it.

Last but not least, the art museum. There was this incredible exhibit I was dying to see in downtown LA called the Infinity Room. This is a room of mirrors that have LED lights installed throughout and the illusion is simply incredible. We got to the museum in the middle of the afternoon, not realizing how crowded it was going to be. We went to sign up for the installation because it was a first come first serve kind of deal, realizing that we were the last spots of the day to sign up. We were excited until we realized that our weight time was 5 hours. So, we just kind of brushed it off and went to explore the rest of the museum. An hour and a half later we were about to finish all of the exhibits when I got a text that it was our turn to see the installation! And it was breathtaking. The picture I took is from one of the smaller pieces of the installation that is one of my favorites.

Those were just a few of many highlights of our trip but I have to say, my mindset is completely shifted. And even though I will still be lifting my feet every time I drive over a railroad and knocking on some wood here and there, you know I’ll stay manifesting my destiny… Even when I am a billionaire living on the cliffs of Malibu (see? manifestation is fun).

Just one eccentric gal trying to use words to tell my story and yours!
