Here Are All of the Upcoming Movies to Get Excited About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Going to the movie theaters seems so outdated especially since these days we have access to thousands of shows and movies at our fingertips. You’re probably asking, “why should I go to the movies to pay for something I can find online?” Well, I’ve got two reasons for you: 1). Finding it online is illegal (I won’t snitch though) and 2). The movies coming out soon look too good to pass up! Here’s a list of upcoming movies that are sure to drag you out of bed and into a theater for some old-fashion quality entertainment.

A Star Is Born: October 5

In this musical drama, Bradley Cooper plays musician Jackson Maine who falls in love with Lady Gaga’s character Ally, a struggling singer-songwriter. Along with being the third remake since the original in 1937, it is also the directorial debut for Cooper. There’s something for everyone in this film whether it’s music, drama, romance, or getting to stare at Bradley and Lady Gaga for two hours (AKA what I’m here for).

Bad Times at the El Royale: October 1

This thriller mystery has an all-star cast composed of Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Bridges and Nick Offerman. It takes place in a peculiar hotel located right on the state border between California and Nevada. The trailer alone features a mirage of beautifully crafted mysterious scenes that draws the audience into this strange hotel.

Beautiful Boy: October 12

Two words: Timothee Chalamet. Need I say more? The family-oriented drama follows the lives of Steve Carell’s character David as he helps his son Nic, played by heartthrob Timothee, overcome his drug addiction.

The Hate U Give: October 19

One of the most important films of the year, this intense drama follows the life of conflicted Starr Carter in the weeks leading up to the murder of her best friend at the hands of a cop. Starr, played by the wickedly talented Amandla Stenberg, then discovers her true voice and demands a change in her society and justice for the innocent lives lost daily.

Bohemian Rhapsody: November 2

In this drama/biopic, Rami Malek pays homage to Queen’s frontman, Freddie Mercury, in a depiction that is borderline frightening (they could literally be twins in this movie). The film follows Queen’s rise to fame and Freddie’s sexuality as well as his public battle against AIDS.

Welcome to Marwen: December 21

Based on the true story of Mark Hogancamp, played by Steve Carell, we get an inside look into the world of “Marwen.” When Mark was attacked and left for dead outside of a bar one night, he awoke to realize he had no recollection of his adult life. In an attempt to create memories, he created a miniature town composed of dolls set during World War II. This film is sure to tug on your heartstrings so bring ALL the tissues.

On the Basis of Sex: December 25

This biopic showcases the groundbreaking work of Ruth Bader Ginsburg before she became the second ever female appointed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Felicity Jones has the honor of depicting the pioneer lawyer. Joining forces with Felicity is Armie Hammer who plays RBG’s husband, Martin. This film is the epitome of girl power and is sure to ignite a fire in the hearts of women across America.
