Her Packing List: A Traveling Lady’s Best Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Do you ever struggle with deciding on what to pack when you go on vacation? Or end up breaking a suitcase or two because you decided to bring your entire closet with you? (And yes, I am currently at two broken suitcases, and counting!) Well, ladies, I have an answer for all your packing problems, and it is called “Her Packing List”.

After receiving a ton of positive feedback from her monthly “Female Travel Underground” newsletter, Brooke Schoenman “knew there needed to be a resource targeted solely to female travel gear and minimalist packing advice.” Soon thereafter, Her Packing List became an official website.

The website, founded in late 2010, consists of travel gear reviews, packing lists for various vacation spots and activities across the globe, as well as many other topics, such as where to find the best hiking gear and where to buy special light weight clothes for travelling. Many other female traveler-friendly topics are also available on the website. Furthermore, the website also contains articles on what toiletries to bring with you on your trip, the best electronics (or apps for your electronics) to buy, and even the most top-notch travel backpacks to purchase for your next hike in the mountains. Today, Her Packing List has created over 60 and packing lists in total, with that number quickly increasing.

As a female who loves to travel, I am ecstatic that I was introduced to Her Packing List.  I have always struggled with knowing what to pack. As every woman knows, it’s extremely difficult to pack for a vacation or activity in another state, let alone another country.

As college students, we are often traveling on school trips, planning for our next spring break adventure or even travelling to the other side of the country for one of the biggest job interviews of our lives. Don’t know what to wear or what to bring with you on your trip? Her Packing List has got you covered! For example, let’s say you are going on a 3-day cruise. Yes, ladies, I understand you want to bring all of your cute bathing suits and dresses so you can have tons of pictures to remember your vacation with, but do you really need to bring every single bathing suit and dress you own? Cruise ships are usually pretty specific when it comes to passengers and the amount of luggage they can bring, so you usually have to pack wisely. Here is when Her Packing List comes into play: you go to their website and under “Let’s Get Packing” there are plenty of packing lists for various vacations, and even cruises. The 3-day cruise packing list is great; not only does it list every item (down to jewelry) that you need for each day, it also it even includes pictures! Her Packing List is definitely something you will want to be using every single time you take out that suitcase of yours, whether you are travelling to another country or to a nearby city.

So thank you, Her Packing List, for telling me what I really need and don’t need to pack on my next travel endeavor. My suitcases (well the ones I haven’t broken already) and my wallet are eternally grateful.
