Hakim Green: Artistic Expression at Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Name: Hakim Green

Hometown: Boynton Beach, Florida

Major: Humanities

Relationship Status: Single

Her Campus (HC):  You have such a huge following on social media, what about yourself do you think attracts people to you?

Hakim Green (HG): of course my music, but the fact that people recognize a young man who’s ambitious and is attending school rather than involving himself in things that are not beneficial to his life, and possibly that fact that I am following my dreams and chasing my passion with this music.

HC: On the surface you seem like a pretty easygoing guy, what is something about you that most people would find shocking to know?

HG: I am very easygoing and easy to get along with, but something that most people would find shocking to know about me is that…Wow this is kind of hard to answer, maybe that I rarely hang out with people. For the most part I’m a loner. I’m not sure why, but it works for me; I am a very sociable person, but hanging out with a group of friends is something I don’t do often. Perhaps it could be that I work a lot and have personal things going on at the moment.

HC: Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching, what do you consider an ideal date?

HG: An ideal date would have to be something I’ve never done before. Maybe going on a date that’s like a scene from the movies, you know like a picnic with wine or champagne, fried chicken wings and macaroni [Laughs]. That’s ideal for me.

HC: You’re such a free spirit! You never appear to be upset, what’s the main philosophy you live by?

HG: The main philosophy I live by would be to never let the beliefs and opinions of others bother me, and also to stay focused on me and the things I would like to see unfold for myself, and of course to smile while doing so.

HC: So you consider yourself an artist, where do you find inspiration for your music?

HG: I am an artist and I am sensitive about my art. [Laughs] I’m kidding, but I speak on real life situations that I’ve dealt with and have witnessed. Mash all of that together and I’ll create something beautiful and relatable for listeners.

HC: Do you have plans of pursuing a career in music, and if so, what do you want people to experience when they listen to your music?

HG: I have plans of doing just that; I’m putting them in perspective everyday. I would like for people to listen to my music and envision exactly what I’m singing. “Come closer to me, I want to hear you out babe,” close your eyes and envision that. I like to tell a story that many people can relate to. I want to create a message that correlates with something that’s going on in their life. I just want to make passionate music like Tyrese, John legend, and Anthony Hamilton.  People who you could listen to 10-15 years from now and still feel the music.

HC: Do you reference past experiences in your music, and if so, do you find music to be your therapeutic escape?

HG: Yes, everything I speak about is from experiences or something I’ve witnessed. Music is very therapeutic for me; I can express myself through my music. Let’s just say music takes me to another place, a place where I could just say whatever is on my mind.
