Get Ready For A Conversation With Nathan Fielder

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Need business consulting from someone who graduated from one of Canada’s top business schools with really good grades? In the same month as tosh.show at Florida State, we have “A Conversation with Nathan Fielder.” Nathan is a comedian from Canada best known for his docu-reality Comedy Central show, Nathan For You. The show involves Nathan consulting struggling small businesses using absurd ideas for business development. The show parodies the style of The Profi and most of the time, the business owners go along with the idea. On the show, Nathan has reached widespread media attention, going viral for ideas like “Dumb Starbucks” and the ultimately staged video of pig saving a goat. Nathan spares no expense when helping these businesses, going to ridiculous lengths for his funny and failing business ideas. Nathan uses his natural social awkwardness and often tries to make his guests feel as uncomfortable as possible. He talks about his social awkwardness in an interview with splitsider: “I guess I started to see what was funny about what I thought was terrible about me and I went in the complete other direction where I started to embrace that and even exaggerate it.” He remains in character and serious throughout each episode no matter how many weird turns the events take. The show relies on the unpredictable reactions of its guests. Nathan often meets strange people and invites them back onto the show for future episodes, such as the gun-wielding mall Santa Claus and Rachel, the shallow, awkward girl from the episode, “The Hunk” (parody of The Bachelor). Watch his show, now on its fourth season, on Comedy Central.

Before he comes to FSU on April 1, watch more of Nathan in some of the other shows he writes and stars in. He helped write for Canadian Idol, season 2 of Important Things with Demetri Martin and Jon Benjamin Has a Van. Nathan has guest-starred in Drunk History, The Kroll Show, The League and Childrens Hospital. Fielder has also been guest voice actor on Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons and Rick and Morty.

Tickets for FSU Students and general public will be available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office beginning Wednesday, March 1st 2017, at 11:00 AM. FSU Students are eligible for 1 free ticket per valid FSU Student ID. Check out the facebook event page for more details.
