FSU’s Fall Football Schedule: Expert Predictions for 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

This past week, the FSU Football team released their schedule for the Fall 2020 season. This new season comes with a lot of changes that could fundamentally change the Seminoles as a whole. The new head coach, Mike Norvell, is sure to make his mark on FSU’s football legacy and fans are eager to see what this era of FSU is going to look like. Norvell is already making administrative changes to the coaching of the team but also keeping some of the same people in charge, such as Odell Haggins who was interim head coach after Willie Taggart’s departure. The lineup of players has also had some changes made to it. FSU’s top wide receiver, Cam Akers, left the team just before the Sun Bowl to take part in the NFL draft. Akers was a fan favorite and one of the top players on the team who is credited with aiding in many of the team’s wins in a big way.

The schedule being released has allowed fans and experts to make their own predictions and evaluations about the course of the season. This coming fall, the Seminoles schedule looks as such:

September 5: FSU vs West Virginia (in Atlanta, Georgia)

September 12: Samford vs FSU (Home)

September 19: FSU vs Boise State (Boise, Idaho)

October 3: FSU vs North Carolina State (Raleigh, North Carolina)

October 10: Clemson vs FSU (Home)

October 17: Wake Forest vs FSU (Home/Family Weekend)

October 24: FSU vs Louisville (Louisville, Kentucky)

October 31: FSU vs Pittsburgh (Home)

November 7: FSU vs Miami (Miami, Florida)

November 14: Boston College vs FSU (Home/Homecoming)

November 19: FSU vs Syracuse (Syracuse, New York)

November 28: University of Florida vs FSU (Home)

There’s a lot of new factors for the Florida State Seminoles this upcoming season. The Seminoles will be facing six teams that made it to a bowl game, a 2019 national finalist, and three teams that made it in the AP Top 25. With these challenges, there are also many chances for redemption. FSU now has the chance to turn the tables on teams such as Boise State, whom the Seminoles lost to in their opening game in 2019; Miami, who has a three-game streak over FSU; and University of Florida, who is their biggest in-state rival and has two consecutive wins over FSU.

A big factor in the upcoming season for FSU is the streak of games they are slotted to play against fellow ACC Atlantic Division teams: NC State, Clemson, Wake Forest and Louisville. Last season, FSU beat half of those teams and lost to the other two. Wake Forest and Clemson were two very dominant teams last season with records both better than FSU’s at the time and Clemson going all the way to face Louisiana State in the National Championship game.

Overall, experts are predicting a new era for the Seminoles, one that will likely be successful due to Mike Norvell’s new take on the team. Norvell turned Memphis around, taking them from a mediocre team making it into small bowls, and turned them into a nearly undefeated team in his last season, finishing 2019 with a 12-1 record and winning the AAC championship title. Fans and experts predict and hope Norvell can bring the same intensity and rejuvenation to the Seminoles and potentially restore their former glory.
