Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The event itself is a team fundraising event where members from each team take turns walking around a specified path or track. Events can range from 6-24 hours, with the intention that one team member is always walking to show that cancer never sleeps. Many people participate in Relay because cancer affects such a significant part of our world.

Jake Truett, part of the Relay for Life FSU Council says he Relays because, after witnessing his mother go through extensive chemotherapy for stage three triple negative breast cancer, it is something he never wants to see anyone else go through. By participating in Relay, he is able to raise money for the American Cancer Society to help others who are suffering. Jake was very young when his mother experienced cancer and felt that there was nothing that he could do. Now he is working to take the initiative to stand up and fight against cancer and raising money for the American Cancer Society to help others who are suffering. Jake was so young when his mother experienced cancer, he felt like there was never anything that he could do but now, he is working to take the initiative and stand up and fight against cancer once and for all.

Jake is just one of the many standing up for the fight against cancer. If you want to join the fight here at FSU, donate and/or participate! Relay for Life at FSU has currently raised over $67,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society. With 77 days left till the actual event, there is still more time to spread awareness and donate.

FSU’s 12th Annual Relay For Life Event will occur on April 15th-16th 2016. Last year, FSU raised over $225,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society. This year, they hope to raise upwards of 300,000. To participate in this 18-hour long event, click the link here.
