Is Fox Sports Silencing Abortion Survivors?

With the Super Bowl LIV right around the corner, fans can be found talking about one of two things: The actual game or the commercials that will play throughout it. These commercials give companies and organizations the chance to broadcast their voice to millions of people worldwide. Needless to say, it’s a pretty big deal across the country.

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, Fox Sports was called out by a pro-life group, Face of Choice, for “allegedly refusing to approve an ad the group desired to run during this year’s Super Bowl,” LifeSite News reported. Face of Choice created an ad which spotlighted 14 abortion survivors and allowed them to share a small portion of their stories. The group stepped forward after news was released about Fox Sports approving the first ever commercial starring two drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race. People are questioning Fox’s decision as they have been known for their “conservative” views.

This double standard raised the voice of Lyric Gillett, the founder of Faces of Choice. She expressed her frustration to LifeSite News by explaining that the group submitted their application for approval all the way back in July. “We were one of the very first people to submit anything to them. We met every single stipulation that they asked for and every time we met the line they moved the line further to request something else,” Lyric stated. She went on to share that Fox’s legal department ran them in circles in order to buy themselves more time until November came and all commercial slots were full. “I think it’s clever what they’re doing,” Gillett said. “If they directly said ‘no’ then we could say, ‘this is asinine, look at the suitable ad that Fox rejected,’ but they haven’t directly said ‘no,’ they’ve ignored us, wasted our time, refused to give an answer and refused to either give us clearance or simply say ‘no.’" Faces of Choice debuted their commercial at the 2020 March for Life event and do not plan on pulling back any time soon.

Is Fox Sports ignoring abortion survivors? Are they refusing to give them a voice? This is exactly what Gillett believes as she stated that abortion survivors “have been ignored their whole lives and that they now faced being ignored again”. Gillett spoke with Faith Wire and shared that the commercial’s main goal is for “everyday Americans to actually see choice- to be able to look it in the eye. It is ironic and it is incensing to me that these survivors of abortion had their very own voices almost stolen from them from the moment of conception, and now media is doing that again.”

Gillett wants to make it clear that voices must not be silenced. These survivors are people, not just a “choice”, who deserve to be heard. My Faith Votes is a conservative advocacy organization who has teamed up with Faces of Choice in order to create a petition against Fox Sports, because the survivors’ “voices must not be silenced”.
