Fool-Proof Chick Flicks for Every Personality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

In the age of the “Netflix and Chill” or the lesser known “Hulu and Hang,” us girls need to stick together and just appreciate watching a great movie that was made specifically for our demographic every once in a while. So call up all your girlfriends and start making the popcorn because any of these films listed below call for a good night of food, friends and fun.

For the Drama Queen:

The Notebook (2004)

This movie is one for the dramatics. If you’re a fan of The Notebook, you believe that love is achieved through hard work and steam-worthy make out sessions. It might take you a while to realize that you’re in love with someone, but once you do, you’re playing for keeps. In this movie with Rachel McAdams and the perfect Ryan Gosling, watch what you wish your love life was like.

For the Fashionista:

Clueless (1995)

The person who appreciates this film is neither a “fashion victim” nor “ensembly challenged” – they’re most likely the girl in your group you go to for fashion advice and to see if she’ll let you borrow those new shoes that are also your size. God bless if she does, because nothing is better than free clothes.

For Ms. Popular:

Mean Girls (2004)

Not trying to be puny, but everyone knows that this movie is “so fetch.” If you’re the girl who has to be center of attention and might be considered the honorary Regina George of the group, this movie is meant for you.

For the Alternative Punk:

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

This movie is meant for the girl who breaks the rules and doesn’t mind a Hamlet reference every now and then. Having Health Ledger is also a major bonus.

For the Girl Boss:

Miss Congeniality (2000)

If you believe that you’re meant to run the world and take charge, then this version of Sandra Bullock is your new spirt animal. She’s here to kick some ass and take some names in this wonderful comedy.

For the One Obsessed with Celebrities:

Valentine’s Day (2010)

Did you know that new One Direction song and the accompanying music video was totally about throwing shade at Taylor Swift? Of course you did, because your hobby is knowing everything about pop culture and the celebrities, artists and actors associated with it. So put on the movie and fangirl about all the potential relationships.

For Squad Goals:

Sex and the City (2008)

Do you consider your squad your family? If you do, this movie is meant for you. All you’re missing is a bottle a wine to share with the girls and a great discussion on which member of your friend group is Miranda, Carrie, Samantha or Charlotte.

For the One Who Has the Biggest Wedding Pinterest Board:

27 Dresses (2008)

If you were chosen as the Charlotte in the group (referring to Sex and the City above) then my guess is that you’ve had your wedding planned since you were in your mother’s womb. So enjoy Katherine Heigl and her abundance of bridesmaid’s dresses, and hopefully the ones you have imagined in your head are much better.

For the Hopeless Romantic:

A Walk to Remember (2002)

If you feel in love with The Fault in our Stars, then you’ll have to bring it back to the classics of Nicholas Sparks. Centered around the bad boy and innocent girl with cancer, you feel for this couple so much it hurts. Helpful hint: Have a box of tissues beside you because it is a tear jerker.

For the Basic Girl:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

You’re basic and you know it. Right now, you most likely have a Pumpkin Spice Latte beside you, and are jamming to some One Direction tunes and thinking about the perfect caption for your next Instagram post. This is why you’ll love Audrey Hepburn in the amazing film.

For the One with the Loudest Laugh:

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

If your friends can tell it’s you by just hearing your laugh from across the street, this movie is destined to not only be your number one chick flick, but also one of your favorite films. Centered around a dynamic cast, it’ll have you laughing until your cheeks and belly hurt. Oh, did I forget to mention that you get to see a shirtless Ryan Gosling as well? You’re welcome!

For the Party Girl:

Bridesmaids (2011)

“Nights you can’t remember with friends you can’t forget” is your life motto. If you appreciate a night that goes so far wrong it ends up being right, then this movie isn’t just for you – it’s your weekend inspiration.

For the Blonde Trying to Make a Point:

Legally Blonde (2001)

You might be blonde and love the color pink, but you crush the patriarchy just as much as any other girl. Let Elle Woods take you on a trip to prove that you’re more than just a pretty face. Oh, and the bend-and-snap.

For the Athlete:

She’s the Man (2006)

You’re competitive and always go for what you want. The word “no” isn’t in your vocabulary, and if anyone tells you can’t do something, you prove them wrong in tenfold. Watch Amanda Bynes prove that she’s just as good – or even better than – the boys in this hilarious comedy/romance.

For the one who just wants a good cry:

Titanic (1997)

I think this one is pretty self-explanatory – just make sure you have a tissue or two on hand.
