Five Wattpad Reads I’m Re-Visiting This Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

No time to waste! Let’s take a look at the five pre-teen Wattpad stories that captured my heart.

1.TitleIn 27 Days by Alison Gervais

Genre: Teen Romance (with a hint of the paranormal)

Summary: When Hadley Jamison attends the funeral of her classmate Archer Morales, Death himself offers her the chance to go back into the past before Archer takes his own life. She doesn’t know how she’s going to do it– all she knows is that she has to take the chance.

Why I’m Reading This Again: I am obsessed with any plot related to time travel. Throw in your stereotypical “dark-guy-in-the-corner” and “quirky-girl-who-doesn’t-think-she’s cool” and I’m hooked! In the past few years, it has been published and has been picked up to be produced as a movie.

2. TitleTo Be Luminous by C.D. Fox

Genre: Fanfiction (subgenre: Harry Potter)

Summary: If you’re not familiar with the term fanfiction, it more or less describes a story based off of a pre-existing person, musician, etc. Specifically, To Be Luminous tells the relationship between Draco Malfoy’s son and a cute, French Ravenclaw who loves to stare at the stars.

Why I’m Reading This Again: Forget about #DracoTok— To Be Luminous is the reasoning behind all my Slytherin dreams and fantasies. I have never shipped a couple together as hard as fourteen-year-old me did while reading this.

3. TitleBelieve Me, I’m Lying by Jordan Lynde

Genre: Teen [read: bad boy] Romance

Summary: When 17-year-old Harley loses yet another job, her uncle offers her a job at his school for delinquents. As Harley struggles to keep her age secret (all while taking care of her little brother), she starts to realize there’s more to her students than she thought.

Why I’m Reading This Again: There are a few things I remember about this story. It starts off with rain. I remember that the original cover featured a girl with puffy, black hair. This story (like most others on Wattpad) was definitely kitschy and cliche, but it has over twenty-three million views for a reason.

4. TitleLove at Last Sight by Jordan Lynde

Genre: Young Adult (occupies the same space as Fault in Our Stars and Everything, Everything).

Summary: (Love at Last Sight has one of the most iconic summaries on Wattpad, so I’m just going to paste it in here.) “Rose, I’m sorry, but your eyesight will be gone by the end of this year.” Who knew one simple sentence could change a life so drastically?

Enter Chace, a young man who tackled Rose to the ground, mistakenly thinking she was about to commit suicide. He’s handsome, suave and has no idea why Rose is so upset. Even though she is a complete stranger, he decides he wants to help her feel better.

Why I’m Reading This Again: Lynde was one of my favorite writers on Wattpad. After reading Believe Me, I’m Lying, I immediately found myself hooked on Love at First Sight. This was one of my first Wattpad books that felt more… grown-up. Rose losing her vision was a heavy cloud hanging throughout the entire story, and Lynde handled it very well.

5. TitleTake Me As I Am

Genre: Fanfiction (subgenre: One Direction)

Summary: (Another iconic summary.) I don’t like One Direction. So, can someone please tell me why I’m stuck on a game show with the five boys who have stolen millions of girls’ hearts?

Why I’m Reading This Again: Wattpad is the reason I fell in love with One Direction. Take Me As I Am (being one of the most popular fanfictions on the site) combines aspects of The Bachelor, the Selection book series, and Harry Styles’ floppy brown hair. When I think of Wattpad in its prime and glory, I think of this book.

I’ve fallen in love with plenty of Wattpad stories. It’s been more than seven years since I’ve opened my account, and every single time I log back on the website never ceases to amaze me. The holidays have always been a time to feel nostalgic and grateful for the past year, and these five stories will certainly help me get into the mood. Who knows, maybe I’ll find the Hallmark Christmas spin-off I’ve been looking for?
