Fall 2017 Trends: From the Runway to Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

The Florida sunshine may not have gotten the memo quite yet, but fall is officially upon us. Slowly but surely, temperatures are beginning to drop as the scent of pumpkin spice lattes fill the air. This change of weather means a whole new set of trends and fashion statements are about to hit. Fall 2017 runways have already taken place bringing fashionistas up to date with the most current styles. Seasonally revamping your closet is expensive and unrealistic, but you don’t have to break the bank or sacrifice your style with these suggestions.

1. Vintage Florals

You heard it here first. Despite the famous line in “The Devil Wears Prada”, florals are no longer limited to the spring. This year, vintage floral patterns were spotted on models left and right. Recreate these darker romantic looks by mixing deeper tones with the classic florals that might be tucked away in the back of your closet or through these inspired alternatives.

Silver has been slowly making its way into our wardrobes one space themed waltz at a time, but this year, fall trends are completely breaking out of the norm. Though these looks are bold, there are plenty of more low-key ways to rock these out of this world styles. First, ease your way into it with some sparkly accessories. Before you know it, you’ll be fully embracing this trend with these affordable options:

According to Elle, red is officially the color for fall 2017. It’s easy to be intimidated by this fiery shade, but as a power color, wearing red will both draw attention and give you the confidence to embody any look this season. You’re guaranteed to be able to take on anything (or anyone) in these bold pieces:

As the weather drops, layers become an essential form of survival. This year, consider layering using sheer clothing to add a cool, edgy look to your regular fall gear. This trend isn’t exactly new, but these fashion week looks prove sheer is here to stay. Whether you choose to go classic or add a new flair and embellishment, these easy to find options are perfect:

Adding rips, patches, or even embroidery can update any pair. Afraid of double denim? Well, not anymore. Break all the rules and express yourself through this attainable trend:
