Diverse World Fashion Magazine’s Spring Release Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Students got the chance to put on their best spring attire and enjoy cocktails by the pool while they thumbed through the latest issue of Diverse World Fashion Magazine at DWF’s spring issue launch party on Tuesday, the 22nd. Diverse World Fashion is an award-winning, student-run fashion publication that puts out a new magazine every fall and spring. This most recent issue, named the Color Issue, is DWFs fourth magazine since the organization began. The party was held at Recess, a night/day club located above Madison Social at College Town. Anyone 18+ was welcome to stop by and grab a copy of the magazine for no cover charge.

Diverse World Fashion had everything planned to the T. Every detail was accounted for. They had their own personalized drink menu featuring three fashionable drinks: The Blue Ice (a refreshing shot in an impressively bright blue), The Dark Floral (a black raspberry cosmo), and The Red Stiletto (a handcrafted sangria). The release party was bumping with music provided by local DJs, Ja Ital and Nové Nazaire who kept the upbeat atmosphere going all night, playing the hottest tracks from Beyoncé , Ellie Goulding, and more. Recess’ tropical decor also contributed to the overall atmosphere; the pool, tables, and countertops lit up in all different colors which reflected beautifully off the palm trees. Party-goers could have their pictures taken on the red carpet upon entering by photographer Maya Martinez against a Diverse World Fashion backdrop. VIPs enjoyed private, poolside cabanas with champagne and supplies for mixed drinks. This pumping party took place just off campus. In fact, the rooftop venue overlooked the intramural fields and Doak Campbell Stadium.

Over one hundred people were in attendance, including Diverse World Fashion’s founder and FSU alumnus, Emmanuel Sanchez-Monsalve. Lots of fashionistas and fashionistos were there including writers, photographers, artists, models, and members of the magazine’s PR and advertising teams, making the dance floor as colorful as the magazine itself. This was a fitting farewell to the magazine’s current editor in chief, Emily Wright, who is graduating and leaving the magazine in capable hands. Her editor’s letter at the front of the magazine expressed her inspiration for dubbing this issue the Color Issue. She recognized a parallel between the vibrant color on the latest runways and the diversity of DWF’s members.

The Color Issue featured articles about the Olympics, Lupita Nyong’o, and all things fashion! What makes DWF unique compared to other campus fashion publications is that DWF features a World section with information about trends, not just in the US, but world-wide. This issue had a feature titled, “Around the World in 8 Trends” which explored modern fashion across the globe. These worldly trends included metallics, trial prints, embellishments, bright colors, dark florals, blues, tunics, and mid-century modern attire. Of course there is still plenty of content about Tallahassee and local fashion and culture. Despite being a student publication that is given out for free, DWF magazine looks like it could rival Nylon and Vogue. The release party was a true high-class event, creating the perfect place to relax and have fun before finals.

Be sure to stop by DWF’s table at Market Wednesday for your copy or check it out online! Every issue of Diverse World Fashion Magazine can be found in pdf format on their website: Diverseworldfashion.com. There is also a blog updated several days a week full of useful information about fashion, Tallahassee, and the world!
