Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are the vocalists and songwriters that make up the American country music duo, Dan + Shay. The group has released three albums, Where It All Began, Obsessed and Dan + Shay. Each album has brought the singers tremendous success in the country music industry. Dan + Shay also released several singles, with 2 topping the Hot Country Songs Chart. The two met on Dec. 7, 2012, in Nashville, Tennessee. Right after they had met, the duo began working with one another. Their most successful single is “Tequila” which was a song off of their third studio album, Dan + Shay. The leading single was released in Jan. 2018, with the album to follow in June.

Recently on Instagram and other social media platforms, the duo released a teaser post that hinted at a new single to be released Friday, Oct. 4. The post was for the cover of their new album, the name not being announced, with the date 10.4.19. The group then followed up and posted directly about their new single, which would be featuring Justin Bieber. Although the two have done collaborations with other famous singer/songwriters like Rascal Flats, Justin Bieber – who is known for his fame in the pop music industry – was an unexpected addition to the American country singers’ new album.

The single, “10,000 Hours”, was released at midnight on Oct. 4. It was written and produced by Dan Smyer and Shay Mooney, alongside Justin Bieber, Jordan Reynolds, Jessie Jo Dillion, and Jason Boyd. This was the first song to be released off their fourth album. Bieber recently posted the same teaser video on Twitter and described the single as “wedding music”. This was tweeted only days after Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber had their second wedding on Sep. 30. Smyers and Mooney were two of the guests who had attended the celebration of love and have been friends with Bieber for over several years.

Within a few short hours, the song had reached the number one spot on iTunes. The duo is known for their smooth, country-pop based songs. “10,000 Hours” confirms their sweet, country boys persona. The single is upbeat and acoustic, with a romantic appeal. Smyers expresses that this is one of the duos’ favorite songs that they have written because of the meaning behind it. He explained to iHeartRADIO that the song “is about spending a lifetime learning and loving your significant other.” It was written about their wives, Abby and Hannah. Smyers also commented that “it was fun to collaborate with our good buddy Justin Bieber on this because he’s in the same boat and just married his wife Hailey.”
