All roads lead to Coli…well, I guess Target now.

Coliseum: the once loved club that you never intended on going to but somehow ended up at anyway. Whether unsure whether the Four Loko you shotgunned made you type in the wrong address on Uber or if your driver just decided that’s where you belonged, somehow you would go there. Tallahassee said goodbye to the legendary location in August of 2017. However, Coliseum has refused to be forgotten. Since its demise, the city of Tallahassee has been plagued by one misfortune after another.

1. Deondre Francois

A sad end to the season before it even really began. The injury that FSU’s starting quarterback obtained in the FSU vs Bama season opener fell just short of traumatizing. Time seemed to slow down and every Seminole hoped to awaken from this nightmare. As Francois’ left patella tendon gave way, so did our hopes of another national championship season. While many remained hopeful, game after game proved to be disappointing.

2. Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma hit Florida this past September, almost exactly a year after Hurricane Hermine had made its way through the Tallahassee area at a category one. With Hurricane Hermine, we experienced some thunderstorms but mainly the nightly hurricane party. With Irma came all the excitement and the memories of our last hurricane: days off of school filled with sleeping in until noon and ragers all night. Sure, we may not have had power for a couple days, but what better reason to hit up Brad and see if he had an open spot for you at his place? For those who stayed in town, Irma was slightly different. After threats of a Category five, many evacuated and took their parties on the road. Tallahassee managed to escape the worst of the hurricane with minimal damage done to the city as a whole.

3. Jimbo Fisher

It might still be a little too soon to talk about this one. This past year FSU lost its head football coach, Jimbo Fisher. Coach Fisher began his career with Florida State in 2010. After a less than successful 2017 season, he left FSU without so much as a text to take the head coaching position at Texas A&M starting fall 2018. While there were mixed emotions over the departure of Coach Fisher, most were happy to see him go.

4. Greek Life

The Greek life suspension no doubt casts a gloomy cloud over the campus of Florida State. While we mourn the loss of a member of our community, the ban on Greek life offers us an opportunity to change and to remember all the good that this community is still capable of producing. Greek life plays such an integral role in events, such as homecoming, that it simply was not the same without it this year. It is still unclear when the suspension will be lifted and Greek life will be able to resume full swing with all of its activities.
