Puck Yeah! Why I’m Excited for the ‘Off-Campus’ TV Adaptation

It’s May, and the only thing I’m looking forward to is the release of Season 1 of Off-Campus on Prime Video. All eight episodes of Season 1 will be streaming on Monday, May 13 (Thank you, Jeff Bezos!).

After months of teasing Off-Campus content, the official trailer was released on Thursday, April 23. This sneak peek at Season 1 clocks in at two minutes and twenty seconds, but it was everything I needed to ease my anticipation until May 13.

What is Off-Campus?

Off-Campus is the TV adaptation of the wildly popular Off-Campus romance novels written by Elle Kennedy. There are four books: The Deal, The Mistake, The Score, and The Goal. The Legacy is a bonus “fifth novel” that consists of four novellas revolving around the characters and couples from the first four novels.

The Off-Campus series pioneered the “hockey romance” genre, with The Deal originally published in 2015. Hockey romances are now a staple sub-genre of the sports romance category, all thanks to the success of Kennedy’s novels. Finally, fans are getting a screen adaptation of this beloved series.

What Do Readers Love About Off-Campus?

Let’s face it. If you’ve read The Deal, there was probably a part of you that felt like it reminded you of something at first… Wattpad, anyone?

Yeah, it took me a few tries to get through The Deal because the first few chapters feel like something I would’ve read on Wattpad in middle school.

However, once you push through, the books turn into everything romance readers love about the genre. There’s good banter, solid platonic and romantic relationships, and, of course, well-written steamy content.

After each book of the Off-Campus series, the world of Briar University becomes so much larger. Characters from all the books are connected, so you never lose touch with your favorites for long.

Off-Campus Universe Potential

Here’s to the girlies who read these as they were released while they were in college and now we’re in our late twenties/early thirties but getting ready to be transported back with the show releasing 😏 #offcampus #offcampusseries #offcampusellekennedy

Did I mention the Off-Campus series is technically just the first series of a greater book universe? Oh yeah. If you end up falling in love with the first four couples and still want more, there’s s the Briar U series and the Campus Diaries series to devour next.

Briar U takes place just after the first four books, when the original characters go to college, focusing on their younger classmates, and Campus Diaries is about the original characters’ kids.

Also, Kennedy’s most recent stand-alone novel, Love Song, exists in the same universe, detailing the romance that developed between the son of The Deal’s Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells, Wyatt, and the daughter of The Mistake’s John Logan and Grace Ivers, Blake.

With seven books following the four in the Off-Campus series, there’s potential for many more episodes of Prime Video’s Off-Campus

While it’s still too early to say how successful Off-Campus will be, the show was renewed for a second season prior to the premiere of Season 1, so there’s hope!

To be honest, I read the Off-Campus, Briar U, and Campus Diaries series way too late, but I’m so glad I did. Get a move on it, start reading before the books fly off the shelves, and buckle up for Season 1!
