Comedian Ashley Barnhill to Perform at Club Downunder

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

After the week we’ve all had, we deserve a little laughter in our lives. Luckily, comedian Ashley Barnhill will be coming to perform at Club Downunder on Wed. Nov. 16 to provide that laughter. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 9:30 p.m. The event is free for students with a valid FSU ID and general admission is 5 dollars. Florida State students Sofia Ambra and Chandler Reeder will open the show for Barnhill.

Although some may not know of Ashley Barnhill, you should get to know her. Though quite the up-and-comer in the comedy scene, Barnhill has been highly acclaimed throughout her career. Named one of Just For Laughs New Faces of 2015 in July of last year, Barnhill has toured with comedian greats Dave Chapelle and Marc Maron. In 2014, she was one of the top ten finalists on Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s HBO series, “Project Greenlight,” which gives first-time filmmakers the chance to direct a feature film.

A woman of many talents, aside from standup, Barnhill has also written, directed and acted in many shorts that have gone on to be featured on “Funny Or Die” and the Huffington Post. She trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade, an improv and sketch comedy group that has hailed comedy legends like Kate McKinnon, Ben Schwartz, Aziz Ansari and Amy Poehler. Barnhill was also featured on an episode of “Comedy Central’s” Drunk History, in which she tells the tale of Cassius Clay, better known as the late Muhammed Ali.

Known for her short but not so sweet one-liners, Barnhill touches on topics we can all relate to; dating, mental health and just trying to exist as an adult. A 30-something year old with a law degree, Barnhill is trying to figure out life just like the rest of us. Her dark and wry humor is as quick as it is shocking, and her quick wit has also made her popular on Twitter and Vine (RIP).

Lily Andros, a Florida State student and Club Downunder’s Comedy Talent Buyer says, “One of my main goals for this year was to showcase up-and-coming female comedians. I was so happy to have had such talent as Megan Koester and Emily Heller in Club Downunder this year, and I am so excited to add Ashley Barnhill to that list. Her humor is so real and hilarious. This will be a show you don’t want to miss!”
