Cheap and Fun DIY Halloween Decorations When You’re on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Halloween is just around the corner! That means it’s time to break out that spooky scary décor. If you are like me, I always try to be crafty to save money because those Halloween decorations can be expensive. Luckily, there are many ways to save and get into the Halloween spirit at the same time. Here are three easy, fun and cheap spooky decorations that you can do yourself!

1. Spooky Spiderweb Wall

This is my personal favorite! I used to do this spooky spiderweb wall all the time when I was younger. All you need is some fake spiderweb material, a pack of small decorative spiders and a wall that you can decorate. What’s neat about this spooky spiderweb wall is that it can go almost anywhere—indoor or outdoor. Once you find your prime location, it’s time to decorate. All you need to do is take the fake spiderweb material and stretch it out to cover your desired area. You can also wrap it around corners and tie it around trees. Have fun and spread it out to your liking! After you’re done with the first step, it’s time to place the small plastic spiders on top. Put them wherever and however you like on top of the spiderweb. These simple steps lead to a fun time decorating, and for less than $10!

2. Eerie Eyeballs

If you’re looking for something simple to decorate inside or outside, eerie eyeballs are the perfect DIY craft for you without breaking the bank. All you need is a box of ping-pong balls, stick on craft eyes and a red Sharpie. With the red Sharpie, draw lines to act as veins all over the ping-pong ball. Once it is to your liking, stick on the craft eyes and voila! You now have eerie eyeballs that you can place outside in your yard or inside on a table or in a jar. If you want to take this DIY a step further, purchase a pumpkin to make an adorable pumpkin mummy. All you need to do is paint the pumpkin white, create a wrap design with a Sharpie marker (black or gold looks the best) and then cut out two circles where Ping-Pong balls can fit snug inside to act as eyes. These two ideas are simple and cheap, yet so much fun.

3. Monster Mason Jar

This last DIY is so versatile and creative. All you need for this spooky DIY decoration is a few Flameless Tea Light Candles, a couple of Plastic Mason jars, paintbrushes and a few bottles of acrylic paint in whatever colors you want. Next, take one Mason jar and paint something to cover it. It can be whatever you want! Popular ideas are monsters such as Frankenstein, black cats or even pumpkins. Just be sure to cover the entire jar with paint. Once it dries completely, take a singular tea light and place it inside and cover it with the lid. Other ideas include filling the decorated jar with candy or other sweet treats instead. Monster Mason jars are so creative and unique, so they will surely bring a smile to anyone’s face this Halloween without breaking the bank.

There are so many different DIY crafts that can bring you spooky fun this Halloween while protecting your bank account. Be sure to have fun trying them all. If you are looking for other ways to get creative, check out Pinterest or Michaels for spooky inspiration. Once you have your decorations, don’t forget your candy. Have a fun and safe Halloween!
