Just two weeks ago, winning the National BCS Championship Game was just a dream waiting to become reality for our regular season undefeated Seminoles. Now here we are preparing for a celebration for our Seminole Champs that the Tallahassee community has not seen since 1999. The initial celebration for our football heroes was supposed to be January 18th, however, due to many last minute changes of players not being able to be in attendance, we received the news that the celebration would be cancelled. This caused a huge uproar from excited faculty, supportive parents, and of course, the devoted student body. We are all fans in our own right, whether some are actual graduates or have just liked the team since the Bobby Bowden era. With people from across the country booking flights and preparing proactively for the big day, the cancellation put a heavy damper on things. I sit here writing this article glad to say that the people in charge had a change of heart and instead of a complete cancellation, the celebration was just more like a rescheduling. It is with great joy to say the celebration is now back in the works and the atmosphere is buzzing with excitement. To be back in Doak Campbell with thousands of people that bleed garnet and gold will bring back memories of the fireworks, laughs, cheers, and amazing plays from our home games last fall. The only thing different will be our amazing champion squad of a team, and it really gets no better than that.
From Clemson to the University of Miami, from Nick O’Leary to newest Heisman winner Jamies Winston, this season was taken by storm and the team has the title of 2014 National Champions to show for it. Though the number two Auburn Tigers really put up a fight, it was not enough to stop the number one team in the country. However, it was definitely a great game. People sat in homes, bars, and clubs for watch parties and now we get to have a final joint party to close the year out—seats will fill all around the stadium with Seminole chops and chants filling the air. Bringing the win from Pasadena, California to the little city of Tallahassee will go down in history, so if you’re in attendance, be sure to have your camera!
The biggest quote that has been reused on a daily basis throughout campus and conversation between fellow ‘Noles came from the mouth of Winston himself:
“At Florida State, if we’re going to do it then, we do it big then.”
This phrase has carried the team through by far one of its greatest seasons ever. We definitely did it big. The sight of The Coaches’ Trophy will be a memory for years to come, even though this is not the last that the BCS Championship Game will see of us. This celebration will be epic! It may not be the original date, but hey, everything is always better the second time around. Â
Come celebrate! Saturday, February 1st at 12:00 noon inside Doak Campbell Stadium. The event and parking are both free.
