The Best Thrift Shops To Hit in Tally This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

In a world where one fashion trend replaces the next after mere weeks, it’s time to take a break from the online shopping frenzy and start buying your clothes secondhand. Living in a city like Tallahassee with thousands of other college girls is a blessing — there are a lot of cute clothes being circulated around thrift stores. Plus, we all know you don’t have the money for a new Edikted order every single week.

Lucky for you, I’ve taken the liberty of testing out every single thrift store in Tallahassee. Thrifting can be hit-or-miss, but I’ve compiled the best ones into a list, so you don’t waste your time trying to find the good spots.

Whether you’re a trendy girl or a vintage girl, there’s something for everyone at the thrifts. Consider this your ultimate guide to thrifting in Tallahassee. Overspending is out in 2024, so let’s get started.

CITY WALK THRIFT STORE

City Walk is hands down the best hidden gem in Tallahassee. It checks all my boxes for a perfect thrift store: it’s affordable, organized, and just big enough to not be overwhelming. Plus, it’s located only five minutes from campus and has some of the best inventory. I’ve never walked out of City Walk empty-handed, that’s for sure.

The prices are marked by item category, which is the most affordable method of thrift shop pricing. For example, each pair of shorts is $4.99 regardless of the brand, so you can find some pretty good deals. I see recent trends from Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters, and Princess Polly here pretty regularly, and I find great vintage too.

The secret of City Walk is coming in on Wednesdays! They do 50% off everything — clothes, purses, and shoes. This sale happens every single Wednesday and the last Saturday of the month. The last time I was here, I snagged some brand-new Abercrombie jeans for only $3.50! If I could only recommend one store from the whole list, it would be City Walk.

THE GOODWILL BINS

If you’re a seasoned thrifter, you’ve probably heard of the Tallahassee Goodwill bins before. But if you’re new to the secondhand shopping hemisphere, this might be a totally foreign concept to you.

The Goodwill bins are where clothes go after not selling in regular Goodwill stores for a couple of weeks. The clothes are wheeled out in massive blue bins, where they’re completely unsorted whatsoever. Shoppers dig through the bins and then weigh their carts, where the clothes are sold for only $1.99 per pound.

You might think that just because the clothes come from previous Goodwill locations there’s nothing cute in the bins, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The bins are the best place to shop when you don’t know what you’re specifically looking for because there’s truly a mix of everything. From Lululemon to insane vintage Carhartts, you can find something in the bins.

Make sure to check out the Tallahassee Goodwill bins with at least a few hours on your hands and maybe a pair of gloves. It’s a great way to spend a day with friends, too.

THE OTHER SIDE VINTAGE

Located just a short walk from campus, this melting pot of vintage resale is perfect for any retro-lover out there. While the pieces are priced according to their value, the curation of vintage from each vendor in the shop is so unique and fun to look through.

Because the shop is a compilation of over 25 different vendors, you can find pretty much anything you can imagine. There are corners of the store full of classic streetwear such as faded tees, crewnecks, and varsity jackets, and there are also racks and racks of vintage Levi’s so you can find the perfect pair of jeans. Some vendors specialize in shoes while others primarily source vintage dresses. It feels like no matter which direction you look, there’s something eye-catching. Plus, if you’re looking to stock up on some vintage FSU gear, this is the place for you.

GOODWILL (2734 Capital Cir NE and 2309 Apalachee Pkwy)

It’s important to note that not all Goodwills are created equally. These two, however, are the best Goodwills in town, and I’ve visited every single one.

The number of cute pieces in these stores makes the drive totally worth it. Just the other day, I walked out with that black Edikted mini skirt that’s viral on TikTok, and it still had the tags on it! If you’re going to try your hand at a Goodwill, I’d stick to these two in Tallahassee.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Honorable mentions include the Good Samaritan Super Thrift Store and The Living Harvest! If you’ve already hit all the shops mentioned above and you’re looking for some new ones, those two are some great local shops to support.

Make sure to keep an open mind no matter where you go. Remember that thrifting takes time to find the hidden gems on the racks! Pop in some headphones and grab some Starbucks on the way as a little reward for shopping sustainably — you deserve it.
