Spots on FSU’s Campus To Look Mysterious In During Cuffing Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Cuffing season is ramping up and if you’re like me, you’re still looking for someone to settle down with this winter. Looking for love on FSU’s campus is no easy task with a majority of these people being completely emotionally unavailable. However, during my time on campus, I’ve noticed that there are some spots where students look especially cool and mysterious. So, if you’re hoping for “the one” to come up to you, here are some locations where you might have the best luck.

Windowsills

I’ve never seen cooler people than the ones who sit on the windowsills around campus. What could be better than leaning against a window with plenty of natural light behind you causing an angelic glow? Windowsills cause people walking by to think things like “Why isn’t she sitting on the bench right there?” Rejecting the cultural norms of sitting on a bench is guaranteed to make you seem mysterious, and eligible bachelors or bachelorettes are sure to come up to you and ask for your number. If you’re looking for the perfect place to lounge in between classes, consider a windowsill.

Hammocking on Landis Green

One of the things that we are blessed with on this campus is beautiful greenery. There are many hammocking spots on campus, but if you’re looking for your future spouse, there is only one correct location to set it up: Landis Green. While I’d say that normally the Mina Jo Powell Green is the best spot on campus, it just doesn’t get the foot traffic that Landis does. So, if you’re in your granola girl era like me and want some strangers to approach you, Landis is the place. Hammocks are inherently cool and mysterious, and with the hundreds of people that walk the paths across the green every day, you’re sure to catch someone’s attention.

A Club Downunder Show

If you want to lean into cool and mysterious, show up to a Club Downunder performance by yourself. There is nothing that says Manic Pixie Dream Girl quite like a girl alone at an indie concert. Stand in the corner with your arms crossed bobbing your head for full effect. Or dance and sing your heart out if you’re trying to put out those confident vibes.

Starbucks

It may be an obvious choice, but with all of the Starbucks locations on and around campus, it’s impossible to ignore. Sipping on a latte while reading a book is the perfect way to catch someone’s eye. You get bonus points if the book is completely pretentious and draws attention. Even more bonus points if you make the short journey off campus to the Barnes and Noble Café. Not only does the Barnes and Noble Café have some of the most delicious cheesecake I’ve ever had, but being surrounded by books is going to draw those academic people to you.

Your Dorm Lobby

Unfortunately, this only applies to people who live on campus, but it’s extremely successful. People may warn you against “dormcest” but sometimes the best people are the ones you live with. Almost every single day of my freshman year, I sat out in the lobby of Bryan Hall. Not only did I meet my best friends to this day by doing this, but I was on the minds of most Bryan Hall residents. I had people I had never spoken to coming up to me and asking me if I was the girl who was in the lobby all the time. I was living rent-free in Bryan Hall’s mind just by sitting and doing my homework. Now, Bryan is a small dorm so other dorms might not be as tight-knit, but by using this method you’re sure to attract a few people.

If you’re tired of being single like me, I hope you try hanging around these spots on campus. It’s important that you do these things alone. Not only will you appear more mysterious, but you’ll be much more approachable this way. This also isn’t an exhaustive list. Anywhere on campus can be cool and mysterious if you make it that way. All you need to do is be yourself, and the cool and mysterious will follow. Good luck out there my fellow single ladies, I hope cuffing season treats you well!
