“Love Is in the Stars” Tarot Card Readings at FSU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

With an interesting start to my semester, one of the only things I was looking forward to was the “Love Is in the Stars” event at Florida State University (FSU), hosted as a collaboration between the Astrology Club and Club Downunder as part of a celebration for Valentine’s Day. Hosted at the Student Union Plaza, one was greeted with a small bag of chocolates, Sweethearts candies and a cherry-flavored heart lollipop. The event had a wide variety of activities, such as a Valentine’s day decoration card station, a horoscope table, a tarot card reading station and, my personal favorite, a tote bag printing station.

The tote bag printing station featured four designs: A red flame design for fire signs, a green tree design for Earth signs, a light-blue design of planet Earth for air signs and a dark blue goblet with water for water signs. The club members running the event were sweet, interactive and fun. The girl who helped do my water sign tote bag was communicative and gave me instructions on how to take care of my new tote bag.

After, my friend and I went to the card-making station. Here we had a plethora of sticker choices, markers to draw with and a variety of card designs to write letters to whoever your heart desires. Lastly, we headed over to the tarot card reading station. Tarot cards, for those who are unfamiliar with the subject, are similar to a regular deck of cards, but as you pick your cards, they serve to tell you your divine advice. This advice may range from love, money and career to goals, social life or general life paths.

As a backstory, I am very into journaling down my feelings, but this semester I have not had the chance to truly sit down and put down on paper what I have felt. During my tarot reading, I was surprised when I picked my deck and the girl took a look at me and told me to stop suppressing my emotions, quit lying to myself and face my feelings. Many changes to my life had occurred since the start of the spring semester. Changes that have affected my feelings, brought me closer to friends and helped me let go of many. Being told what I already knew, to face my fears and feel my feelings, validated what I already knew.

As the blue sky settled into a beautiful light-pink sunset, and with a new tote bag and my tarot card advice, my friend and I headed back to our dorm.

Club Downunder is the name of FSU’s Programming/Entertainment Board, as well as the venue at the lower level of the Student Union. Club Downunder usually hosts events weekly, such as Emo Night, Open Mic Poetry and many more. For the month of February, Club Downunder is hosting a multitude of events such as a local comedy showcase, a local lovers showcase in which one can come and watch live local artists perform and even an FSU vs. Miami men’s basketball watch party on Feb. 25.
