Brittany Michelle Johnson: Our Very Own Georgia Peach

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Name: Brittany Michelle Johnson

Year: Junior

Major(s): International affairs and French

Relationship Status: Single

Extracurriculars: Brittany is a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and Students for America’s Military.

Her Campus (HC): What inspired you to participate in pageants?

Brittany Michelle Johnson (BMJ): I first got involved with the Miss America Organization in Georgia, which is where I’m from. I had friends who competed in the pageant system and they encouraged me to try it. I kept competing when I came here to FSU to help my parents pay for my out-of-state tuition. What a lot of people don’t know about this organization is that they are the #1 provider of scholarships for young women in the United States, and last year alone they made available more than $45 million dollars in scholarship money nationwide. I also just love what this organization stands for. There are four points to the crown, which are Service, Style, Scholarship, and Success, and all of these are extremely important to me in my life.

HC: What pageants have you been in, and what titles have you won?

BMJ: First off, to be able to compete at the Miss Florida pageant, you have to win a local or preliminary pageant. Last year I competed in four preliminaries, made it Miss Florida as Miss Florida Citrus, and I placed in the top 11. This year, I’ve competed in three preliminaries and currently have the title of Miss Flagler County 2014, and I will be competing for Miss Florida this June!

HC: Who (or what) is your style inspiration?

BMJ: I absolutely love Kate Spade right now, especially for business casual attire, but my forever-favorite style icon would have to be Lauren Conrad. I also love finding cool things online at Tobi and the Red Dress Boutique.

HC: What’s your favorite thing about being a student at FSU?

BMJ: My favorite thing about being an FSU student is knowing that we’re national champions! I love the atmosphere of our football games, and I also love how beautiful our campus is.

HC: What do you like to do in your free time?

BMJ: For Miss Florida my personal platform is Speech and Hearing Disability Awareness, and a platform can be any organization or cause that a contestant truly cares about. Recently, I’ve been working with Audiology Associates of Tallahassee and local area schools to plan events for the month of May, which is Better Speech and Hearing month! I also love to watch Game of Thrones, go shopping, nap, and spend time at the pool with my friends.

HC: What’s your dream job?

BMJ: So far in my career I’ve had a couple [of] internships, one at the capital here at the House of Representatives, and another at the French Embassy in Washington D.C. I don’t see myself becoming a politician when I’m older, but I could definitely see myself becoming a lawyer or just working for the government.

HC: Who’s your celebrity crush and why?

BMJ: Chris Pine. He is absolutely gorgeous! And I’m kind of a Star Trek nerd, thanks to my dad, so [when] the newer Star Trek movies came out and he played Captain Kirk, I liked him even more.

HC: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

BMJ: A lot of people don’t know that I’m from Georgia. I’ve gotten a lot of people ask if I’m from Orlando or Tampa but nope, I’m a Georgia girl.
