Binge-Worthy Netflix Series for Your Lazy Quarantine Days

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

This staying in the house stuff is hard. I feel like I am running out of things to do, snacks to eat and shows to watch! With all this time on my hands, I have moved from scoping out YouTube to finding some shows to binge-watch on Netflix. Here’s a list of shows I’ve blown through in the past however many days of quarantine. Maybe you’ll find your next fav series here!

The Circle

This Netflix Original Series is a competitive reality-TV show that gathers contestants who are in the race for $100,000. Contestants must compete for popularity in a voice-automated social network system; however, there’s a twist: they can’t see one another. This leaves contestants with the ability to catfish their rivals to win or charm them by being their authentic selves. Overall, it’s pretty interesting, and I’m so excited for season two. I tried to watch the French version of the show, but it was a total fail (the closed captions just weren’t doing it for me).

Kim’s Convenience

This Canadian-based series focuses on a Korean-American family and their family business—a local convenience store. It’s hilarious but also heavily focuses on serious topics like familial bonds, romantic relationships and careers/schooling. I love the Asian-American representation in the show, and I binge-watched all four seasons in under two weeks (record-breaking for someone who struggles to finish any series).

American Horror Story

So I know I’m super late on the bandwagon, but I absolutely love this series, its recurring actors and talented creator. I binge-watched “Coven” this past October to get into the Halloween spirit, and I loved it (it’s still my favorite despite the seasons I’ve watched most recently). During this stay-at-home order, I’ve managed to get through “Cult” and “Murder House,” and I’m now watching “Freak Show.” This series manages to always keep me on my toes; I could do without all the gore though.

The Chef’s Line

This show is for all my food lovers! Highlighting cuisines worldwide, this cooking series allows three home chefs to compete against the chef’s line of some of the world’s best restaurants. I love seeing the creativity of these food lovers as they put their spin on staple dishes from Vietnam, Turkey, Italy and more! I’ve stolen some professional cooking tips from this series, and it’s even given me some hope in my own cooking abilities—I mean those home chefs are amazing!

Self Made

Based on the life of the first female African-American millionaire, Madame CJ Walker, this show highlights the struggles and determination of black women during the early 20th century. Although it’s a limited series containing only four episodes, this Netflix Original is inspiring and entertaining! I’m currently on episode three and in no rush to finish—it’s too good to be over so soon.

That’s all I’ve been able to scope out on Netflix so far. I have no clue what I’ll dive into next once I finish Self Made and every season of American Horror Story. Maybe I’ll move on to Hulu, Disney+ or HBOGO. I hope you can enjoy one of the shows above as well! Stay safe and stay inside!
