The Best Tips and Products to Maintain Your Summer Glow in Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

After the thrill of the holidays has fizzled out, and the routine of everyday life once again takes its course, the chill of winter can leave many people feeling lethargic and down in the dumps. However, just because you’re experiencing those seasonal blues doesn’t mean you have to look like it. As someone who’s weathered the chillier months and searched to and fro for the right products to make me appear radiant in even the dead of Winter, I’ve finally settled on a few go-to’s to ensure that this year you don’t leave your skin out in the cold:

1. Exfoliators

Cold, dry air can be rough on the skin. Therefore, exfoliation is essential in rejuvenating your healthy glow by removing dead cells on your skin’s outermost surface. When left unattended, these skin cells build up and contribute to dry, dull skin as well as acne. One of the easiest ways to ensure that you’re exfoliating properly is to invest in a bristled cleansing brush or exfoliating scrub. A few options to consider are the Clean and Clear Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub or the Philosophy: Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash, both cost-effective and work to invigorate the skin.

2.  Moisturizers

Staying moisturized is highly important in combating a grey appearance, and twice as important through the winter months. For those with dry skin, finding a moisturizer that will keep skin soft and hydrated throughout the day can feel like a daunting task. But have no fear, Clinique offers the Moisture Surge Intense Hydrator to replenish nutrients in even the driest of skin, and the Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer leaves the face feeling baby soft and ready to brave even the toughest winter environment.

3. Masks

Because a trip to the spa isn’t always easy to fit into our schedules (or budgets), face masks allow us to bring some of those same treatments into our homes. There are a wide variety of masks on the market that are said to nourish and illuminate the skin. The award-winning Dr. Jart+ Water Replenishment Cotton Sheet Mask instantly refreshes and hydrates skin, leaving the user with a healthier, more vivacious appearance.

4. Skin Luminizers

If you’re looking for a subtle sheen or something to liven up your “no makeup” makeup look, then look no further. Liquid luminizers and primers that offer a radiance boost provide an effortless glow and can be mixed into moisturizers or foundations depending on the desired result. The Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector, as well as MAC’s Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Primer, are both viable options to elevate your look and step up your glow!

5. Highlighters

Highlighters are a foolproof way to get an instant glow. Just brush a little onto the cheeks and over the brow bone and suddenly you’re ready to blind every passerby. Some personal favorites are the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sun Dipped Glow Kit and Makeup Forever’s Pro Light Fusion Highlighter. Both products allow their user to attain a noticeable glimmer with just a dusting of the product.

So when the cold has your skin wanting to call it quits, consider these tips and you’re guaranteed to be a hit. Shine on, ladies!
