Her Campus (HC): So I see you’re originally from out of state, what made you decide to come to on Florida State instead of a university in Maryland?
Alyssa Briguglio (AB): My major is what made me choose FSU, they have one of the best programs for meteorology in the country.
HC: How did you know you were into meteorology and what do you want to do with it once you graduate?
AB: I knew I was into meteorology in the 6th grade when I would watch the weather station for fun. Once I graduate I want to be a part of a Hurricane Hunter team in which they track down and sometimes fly through hurricanes to collect data. I’m more interested in the research than the television aspect of meteorology, so don’t expect to see me as your local weather girl in the future.

HC: What are you involved in on campus?
AB: I’m a part of WIMSE.
HC: What is WIMSE and how did you become a part of it?
AB: WIMSE stands for Women in Math, Science and Engineering. It’s basically a group of girls who are also a part of this {meteorology} and other STEM majors who get involved in STEM related activities around campus. It’s really good since it allows us to network ourselves with other people who share our same interests and passions. I found out about WIMSE after I applied to FSU during my senior year of high school. I received an email while I was still in Maryland asking if I was interested in applying and had to go through an interview process. I’m very happy I was chosen to be a part of it.
HC: What’s your ideal date?
AB: My ideal date is a picnic on the beach at sunset. I know it’s basic but whatever.
HC: Favorite quote?
AB: “A day without a friend is like a pot with honey” – Winnie the Pooh
