We’re back with another themed week on the site: Beauty Week. This semester, Her Campus FSU has created themed weeks dedicated to exclusive content we believe all of our readers should have access to. Keep up on the site for the next few days as we tackle everything from the best beauty brands to follow to the much-debated brazilian. Trust us, you don’t want to miss this.

Along with fashion season comes innovation in beauty. Every year, new designers pop up and start dominating conversation and there are a few beauty brands looking to do that as well. In a world of M.A.C. and Lush Cosmetics taking over Instagram feeds, it’s time for these less popular brands to rise up and shine. Here’s a list of eight beauty companies to get to know better and fall in love with.

Skinn by Dimitri James

With everything from set Day and Night “Skinncare” products to ultra wear liquid eyeliner, Skinn cosmetics offers a variety of essentials at a high quality. Some of their featured products with the best reviews include “Body Balm Extreme” rich body crème, “Glosstick™” Ultra Shine Lip Color and a “Milky Protein Cleanser.” Check out more of their products at here

Shiseido

This Japanese beauty company has been around for almost 150 years, but for some reason hasn’t gained significant attention in America. Generally acclaimed for their skincare products, Shiseido has religious support by Cate Blanchett, who had been a longtime fan before becoming a brand ambassador. Their products are a little steep to the average college student, but their dedication to healthy skin is evident to every user. Check out the elegance here.

Kiehl’s

Founded in 1851, Kiehl’s isn’t a newcomer in this beauty business. Their classic packaging and refreshing ingredients keeps Kiehl’s strong in the game. Depending on size of the product their prices range from reasonable to expensive. Their brand backs up their prices with incredible personal testimonies from users and a history of adapting to the user’s needs. For more products click here

Glossier

As one of the more popular brands on this list, Glossier appeals to the millennial generation by their exceptional use of social media and clean, pastel aesthetic. If the look doesn’t draw you in, the convenience of having a whole skincare routine already set for you and your skin shade will. The “Glossier Phase 1” set includes all the essentials for radiant skin: a gel cleanser, moisturizer, face balm and a perfecting touch of tint.

Acure

Like the more popular brand Lush, Acure has entirely natural ingredients and does not conduct animal testing. Their mantra is “It’s not enough to be natural…it has to work.” With very affordable products and a wide collection of essentials (face, body, hair) Acure is something worthy of checking out. Their “Argan Stem Cell + Chlorella Growth Factor Brightening Facial Scrub” won an Earth Day Beauty Award in 2015 and the reviews are outstanding. Hurry and check out the amazing products they have here.

Frank Body

Like Glossier, Frank Body knows how to kill it with the aesthetic. Light pink with a cute font makes anyone a sucker for their products. The collection is limited, but categorized into: tough, gentle, clean and smooth. The body scrubs are packaged in cute brown ziploc bags and seem to smell like heaven even before opening. Origins

Origins isn’t in your face with advertising, but we’ve all heard of it in some weird way. Maybe one of your mom’s friends gave it to her in a bundle of beauty supplies for Christmas, or you always walked by their section in the mall and wondered about their obsession with trees. Now is the time to look into their products. William Lauder, son of the great Estée Lauder, created Origins to be an earth friendly and natural beauty line. As grand as Estee Lauder and as natural as Lush, this brand finds good balance. Shop their stuff here.

Foreo

Without a doubt you have seen Foreo’s main product, the “Luna Brush” in a magazine or online. Maybe your only thought was, “oh it seems cool,” and flipped the page, but this brand is so much more than that. The “Luna Brush” only takes two minutes to use, take it with you in the shower, and you’re done. The silicone exfoliation pad is gentle and specialized to sensitive skin. The pulses gently unclog pores and leaves skin bright. This brand even has a toothbrush section, so if the facial brush does wonders, go for the full gusto. See it to believe here.

FSU graduate student, born and raised in Japan, has an obsessive affinity with tea and cats. Spends her free time reading magazines in her collage-plastered room or ranting about feminism and existentialism to peers. Perhaps in the future Megan will be an editor at a magazine, or something equally as cool and dramatic. Check out her website at meganmmcclain.com
