Whether you’re the simple girl who enjoys rocking a small black clutch, or you’re the oh-so-fabulous fashionista who can’t leave the house without your extra large floral Betsey Johnson tote, we all own those one or two favorite bags. But ladies, let’s be completely honest — do we really include the essentials that we should carry around in them? Here are the seven must-haves that every girl should keep in the secret world of her purse:

7.  Aspirin

There is nothing more frustrating than a random headache that puts a hold on all plans and appointments for that day. By keeping a bottle of pills on you, you will be sure to be invincible, no matter the severity of the pain.

6.  Money

This is probably the riskiest of all the seven on the list, for the simple fact that having money is easy but not spending it all in one day is quite a challenging task.  Having a small amount of money in your purse will come in handy for those cab or pay phone emergencies and other incidents that we least expect.

5. A Pen

Now, I know you’re probably sitting there saying “I never include this in my purse,” which is exactly why it made the list. We never realize how often we use a pen throughout the day; from writing quick little notes to self, writing important information down from a friend, or even a cute stranger (winky face). A purse without a pen is a basic setup for failure.

4. Toiletries

As a female, each and every one of us will run into a time where we need a touch up of deodorant or maybe even a tampon. Always be prepared and keep your Secret to yourself.

3. Compact Mirror

It is mandatory to keep a small mirror in your purse. Your best friend will not always be around to do the “teeth check” or tell you when your eyeliner has smudged. Be that friend that can always offer out her mirror to others to fix their face as opposed to being the girl who the mirror is constantly tossed to.

2. Lip Balm

It’s that one strange addiction that a girl will go crazy over if she thinks it’s lost. From ChapStick to Mac color gloss, it is essential to have some sort of lip moisturizer on duty at all times.  Especially with hard winters like these, the lips dry out fast and there is nothing more unattractive than cracked lips.

1. Mints/ Gum

Before I go any further, I know that there is a difference between bubble gum and actual chewing gum. As tasty as bubble gum flavors are, they are not really reliable for those hard times. After a garlic crust meat lover pizza for lunch, only a piece of minty gum — let me repeat, MINTY gum — or a peppermint will do the trick. No one wants to be that gorgeous girl with the stink breath. Often times, people will never tell you the truth if your breath smells bad (with the exception of that one blunt friend), so keep a little boost of freshness in your purse.  You never know who you might run into.

Aside from the usual hunt through junk, like old receipts from Chipotle, our phones and their chargers, and weird dirt crumbs that we can never figure out the origin of, these seven items must be included — no ifs, ands, or buts about it.  Make good use of your purse, ladies!
