5 Ways Taylor Swift Is Taking Over Music

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Taylor Swift stepped onto the music scene when she was just a teenager. Once she was signed to a record label, she slowly but surely began to take over the music scene and show the world her talent. Taylor has proven that she is a diverse, multifaceted artist that can produce what her fans want to hear.

1. She can do any genre… amazingly.

Taylor started out as the loveable country singer/songwriter from Nashville, and somehow transformed into a pop music sensation! Throughout her career, you could see traces of her transformation from country to pop. In her last album, RED, there were songs such as “I Knew You Were Trouble” that showed her ability to write music with a pop edge. Her most recent album, 1989, was declared her first pop album, and Taylor has never sounded or written better! With the release of this new album paired with moving to New York City, she has stepped away from her country background and has blossomed into the pop artist she was meant to be.

2. Even if you don’t like her, you WILL sing her songs.

It’s nothing to be embarrassed about! We all have those songs that we don’t particularly like of hers, but you can bet when that song comes on the radio, we know every single word. She has a way of finding that catchy hook that sticks in your head for weeks. Even if you hate on her for what she sings about, how she sings, or the way her music sounds, you and I both know you still secretly sing her songs when they come on.

3. Her songs are relatable.

When I listen to a Taylor Swift album, there is a story behind every song. Her lyrics express situations that almost every person has been through at a certain stage in their lives. She has a way of making you feel personally connected to her music. Not many artists have that capability. When an artist can get in touch with your emotions, you are now captive to their music.

4. She allows herself to change.

Taylor realized she was ready for a change in not only her music, but also her scenery. So she did it! Artists sometimes niche themselves and are afraid to branch out and produce new music that their fans aren’t used to. When Taylor decided that she was ready to become a pop artist, she accepted that she had changed and that her writing abilities had changed as well.

5. She has a superstar team behind her.

Taylor has many friends who contribute to her music and personal life. Going past the multiple boyfriends she writes about, she also has people that help contribute to her music, like Ed Sheeran and Lorde. Having major artists give their input on your work allows for the best possible work to be produced. She also has her label, which allows her to be ever changing and express herself in whatever stage she is in at the moment. Many labels try to control their artists, but Taylor has always seemed to be in a comfortable setting regarding her contract with her label. Last but not least, she has her fan base that supports her no matter what! She has expressed multiple times that her fans are everything to her and that she does this for them. She wants to take her fans on a journey with her through her life and appreciates their support.
