5 Reasons to Celebrate FSU’s Birthday Like It’s Your Own

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

On January 24, 2020, Florida State University will be turning 169 years old. Attending this university was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. If you are as proud as I am of our university, then there is no reason why we shouldn’t celebrate this birthday like it is our own! I have found five reasons to celebrate this year.

   1. You are a freshman, and this is your first year to celebrate as a student

As a freshman, it is so important to keep yourself involved at your university. Your first year is the perfect time to find random things to celebrate. Of course, you will be able to            celebrate these birthdays over your next few years as a student, but why not experience it your very first year? You attend a prestigious university that has been around since 1851, take all the time you can to celebrate it!

   2. You are a senior and this is your last year to celebrate as a student

Well, I guess its time we get nostalgic. Your time at FSU is coming to an end and you need to take as much time as possible to appreciate your school. You have had the opportunity to celebrate as a student for the past few years and now is your last time to do it again. Celebrate all of the successes you have achieved over FSU’s past few birthdays.

   3. You need an excuse to go out

Sometimes we all need one of these. We want to go out, but we have too many little reasons not to. If you just need one big reason, any reason to tell yourself to go out, go ahead and take advantage of this very important birthday celebration.

      4. You love FSU and just have to prove it

Often, FSU students take a lot of pride in being a student here. We love to show our school spirit in everything we do. Throw FSU a birthday party and celebrate it like it was your own. You attend a top 20 public university and you can celebrate, or cry, if you want to!

     5. You have no plans from 11 am to 1 pm on January 24

If you have no plans at that time then you have no excuse to not attend the free event on Landis Green to celebrate! Our school has made amazing strides in academics, sports, community service and so much more. Take the time to stop on campus for some celebratory activities and sing Happy Birthday.

Now that we are all prepared to celebrate, I genuinely want to wish Florida State University a happy birthday. Happy birthday to the school that has helped us become who we are today. You provided us with an outlet for our passions. We took classes that provided us with so much more knowledge than we could have expected. We participated in clubs and organizations that gave us lifelong friends and exciting new hobbies. We owe so much of ourselves to our university, and without any hesitation, we cannot wait to see how much more FSU will grow!
