Five NYFW Trends To Keep an Eye Out For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

In the wake of New York Fashion Week (NYFW), we can now keep an eye on the trends about to surface. The past few years have been particularly hectic ones for the semiannual event. A number of designers are still even opting for virtual experiences or online lookbooks instead of going back to a fully in person fashion week. Despite this, fashion has not stopped its course with a series of comebacks and new trends. I have spent some time scrolling and researching and noticed several patterns on the runway I can see making an appearance on the street soon.

So here’s a little cheat sheet in case you missed the events:

Bold Eye Makeup

I was not surprised to see all these dynamic makeup looks with Euphoria’s second season currently airing and serving as inspiration. From bright colors to fun eyeliner looks, I noticed makeup artists didn’t hold back to show their artistry. There was an abundance of blue eyeshadow, smokey eyeliner looks, graphic liner, bleached eyebrows, and bold lashes too. Shayne Oliver’s line showcased Pat McGrath’s floral makeup with one of the most dramatic eyes looks yet.

Blush, Blush, Blush

Makeup artists also did not hold back with blush. Artists, for the most part, were leaning towards the dewy look throughout the runways. To do this, they resorted to liquid makeup, specifically liquid blush, and even used lipstick as a substitute for it. They were going from the apples of the cheeks to the temples and even the eyelids. Lori Taylor Davis, Smashbox Cosmetics’ lead artist, exhibited this 80’s-like makeup look for Christian Cowan’s line.

Mismatched Layering

This 70’s inspired trend is making a comeback with a maximalist approach. There were patterns on top of patterns, clashing colors, and asymmetry. All these executions embodied the recent surge of the street style. Layering has been making a statement for some time now, and the addition of patterns conveys a bolder look, as seen in Tory Burch’s looks for one.

Cobalt Blue

In a total 180 degrees from the muted sage green and the neutrals that have been taking over many wardrobes, cobalt blue is now taking center stage. This bright color was a staple throughout the runways. Cobalt blue was making an appearance beyond the garments and being displayed through accessories and makeup too. There were also several monochrome looks embracing this pop of color by designers like LaQuan Smith and Dion Lee.

Sparkle and Shine

Designers steered towards shine this season. Heavily sequined garments and sheers were taking over the runways. Both radiate elegance and work from daytime to nighttime looks. Designer Patricia Bonaldi, the founder of PatBO, showed how these embellished sheers are great for layering and can be used as a way to add some flair to a basic piece.

New York Fashion Week delivered an array of looks. Designers from all over made all kinds of statements, further influencing the fashion world. These trends and many more are, without a doubt, going to be taking over any time soon if they haven’t started to yet. I hope this cheat sheet has served as some inspiration for your next outing or shopping trip.
