4 Sweat Proof Summer Makeup Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

1. Light Powder

Although dewy skin is gorgeous during the summer, it’s important to watch out for overly oily skin that may cause you to look a little too shiny. A light mineral powder will not only absorb the shine and mattify your face, but it will also re-cover up any imperfections that may start to show through after a long day. The L’Oreal True Match Mineral Powder is marketed as an “instant shine eraser,” and is said to last for 16 hours without completely coming off. Pick it up next time you’re at the drugstore and give it a shot.

2. Cream Eye Shadow

It’s no secret that eye shadow gives the eyes definition and makes them pop, but now that it’s summer, it’s time to slightly change your routine—at least during the day. Powdery eye shadows can easily slip off your face, even if you are just out and about for a few hours. The consistency of cream eye shadows are formulated so that they last a long time, and usually act as great bases for powder shadows you want to intensify the color of. A champagne colored cream shadow like the Maybelline Color Tattoo in “Barely Branded” is all the eye makeup you’ll need for the day. Simply swipe the product evenly over your lids with your ring finger so when you go to apply it, you won’t be tugging on that area of delicate skin. Add an extra bit to your inner corners to make them pop. I love the shimmer in this cream shadow because it glistens in the sunlight, making your eyes radiant.

3. Waterproof Mascara

I think waterproof mascara goes without being said here, but even if you find that your mascara doesn’t smudge off your face after a long time outside, there are still numerous benefits from waterproof mascara. The formula of waterproof mascara is said to hold the curl of your lashes longer. If you find your lashes have lost their curl at the end of the day, you may find that the regular formula of mascara is what’s causing this problem. At the same time, the waterproof formulas are usually a bit thicker, causing the mascara to clump your lashes when applying, so I highly recommend you try the waterproof version of the Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara. Since it’s designed to leave your eyelashes looking as natural as possible without any trouble of clumping, this should be your safest bet. Also, be careful while applying any waterproof mascara to your bottom lashes if you know you’ll be going swimming or there’s a good chance you’ll be going underwater—no matter which one you use, they have the tendency of smudging on those itty bitty lashes.

4. Cheek & Lip Tint

If you like to add a lot of color to your face in the summertime like me, you may want to invest in a 2-in-1 cheek and lip tint. This way, you can use the product as a blush and on the lips. Usually, these products will come as tints or stains, so they will have that all-day staying power you desire. Benefit Cosmetics’ Lollitint is their newest cheek and lip tint product, acting as a bright berry color, which will undoubtedly make for a trendy statement this season. But no worries, if you’re the type of girl who likes to be simple with her makeup, Benefit also has three other colored tints you’ll need to check out. There is Benetint, their original rosy red colored stain, Posietint, their rosy pink colored stain, and Cha-cha tint, their mango orange colored stain (which might I add, also looks great in the summertime).
