4 Coffee Shops Around Tallahassee That’ll Get You Through Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

‘Twas the two weeks before Christmas and all through Tallahassee, every student is pulling all-nighters trying to cram for their finals or finish up their last essays. But, like every college student knows, every library and Starbucks on campus is completely full; from open to close. Also, if you are a coffee addict like me, you know how important that extra shot of espresso is when trying to write a ten-page paper. Even on the off chance that you find somewhere to sit, the atmosphere will probably be loud and the Wi-Fi will be painstakingly slow. That is why I came up with a list of coffee shops around the city that won’t just serve you a great cup of joe, but will also be a quiet space for you during this hectic finals week.

1. Black Dog Café

With two locations, one at Lake Ella and one in Railroad Square and scenic indoor and outdoor seating, this café is the perfect setting if you want a quiet atmosphere to get your work done. With a large variety of coffee, tea, and flavors to suit anyone’s tastes and an assortment of fresh baked pastries and food, you can easily spend your whole day there, never having to worry about leaving and not being able to find a table later.

2. Catalina Café

Located on Gaines Street, this place has another great relaxed atmosphere, plus it’s walking distance from campus. This place is known for their signature lattes, my favorite being the Coconut Mocha, and their strong and delicious espresso. They also serve breakfast and lunch all day long so whether you are there at 6 a.m. or 6 p.m., you can always find a great meal there. Also, there is a location on Capital Circle that you can go to as well if you don’t want to study near campus.

3. The Grindhouse

To me, this place is extremely underrated and because of that, it is always super quiet inside. But, the kicker is, it’s right on campus! Located in the Student Life Cinema aka the campus movie theater, there is a little café that serves some great and creative drinks (my favorite is the Black Mamba) as well as a quiet setting; perfect for studying. Because it’s also in the SLC the room it’s located in is huge! This hidden gem has been my secret hideaway where I get my best writing done and has been since freshman year.

4. Lucky Goat Coffee Co.

This place is a Tallahassee staple, so much so, that a lot of restaurants around Tally serve Lucky Goat as their coffee of choice. With four locations on Capital Circle, Midtown, the Market District, and Pensacola, you have four different cafes to find solace in this finals week. The downside is, you’ll need a car to get there, but the plus side is that because it’s further away, there will be fewer people talking up tables. Now let’s get to the coffee. With five star ratings at all their locations, their coffee is no joke. It’s strong, tasty, and affordable, the perfect recipe for a sleep-deprived college student.
