4 Acts You Won’t Want to Miss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

In the next few weeks, FSU is about to become host to a very eclectic mix of artists. J. Ivy, Moshe Kasher, Steve Roggenbuck, and Kendrick Lamar are all making their way into town and it’s guaranteed to be a good time.

March 28th – J. Ivy at the Club Downunder at 9:30 p.m.: Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, (then called James Richardson II) he discovered his love for poetry while in high school. Www.poeticlyricism.weebly.com says that poetry followed him to Illinois State University where he then affectionately became known as “the Poet”. From there he worked with Kanye West, also a Chicago native, on his album College Dropout where you can hear his work on the track “Never Let Me Down”. His work on that album is what earned him a Grammy Award. He has been featured three times on HBO’s Def Jam Poetry. The event is co-sponsored by Poetic Lyricism and continued on to Friday when J. Ivy will conduct a Poetry Workshop (for about 10-15 poets) as well as a Q&A session. The workshop and Q&A is going to be held in room 203 of the Student Services building.

April 3rd – Moshe Kasher at the Club Downunder with Nick Rutherford at 9:30 p.m.: Kasher has been featured on Comedy Central, Chelsea Lately, Conan, and MTV to name a few. On his website, Kasher describes himself as a “Comedian. Child Genius. Jew. Jew Comedian. OBGYN. Pleasure center. Good tipper. Guiding light. Beefcake.”. His comedy special is currently on Netflix and is called “Moshe Kasher Live in Oakland” and he currently has a book out called “Kasher in the Rye”. He is currently a writer for “The New Normal” and a co-host of “The Champs”, a podcast. His jokes are fresh and funny and he’s sure to cause many a heartfelt laugh.

April 7th – Kendrick Lamar on Langford green at 7 p.m: This is Lamar’s second time in Tallahassee, and his show will be free! His most popular hits as of late, have been “Swimming Pools (Drank)” and “Poetic Justice”. Aside from that, Lamar’s album good kid, m.A.A.d city has gone gold and has produced multiple hit singles. Currently working on creating a short film that will depict his life, Lamar has kept his hands full since he crept onto the scene in 2003. For those planning on attending this concert, remember no bags are allowed.

April 17th – Steve Roggenbuck at Club Downunder at 9:30 p.m.: Roggenbuck is a comedian, poet, and blogger. His show, Live my Lief (spelled incorrectly on purpose) will be a presentation of his poetry and his experiences as he travels from fellow friends houses. His blog, http://livemylief.com/, catalogues his experiences and his work is unique and different from what could be expected in the poetic world. Sure to be a conversation starter, Life my Lief is for all ages.

These events are free for FSU student’s with a valid gold ID. All other events vary in price for the general public. These events can be found by going to http://up.union.fsu.edu/upcoming-events.
