3 Reasons ShondaLand Thursday Is The Best Thing To Ever Happen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

TGIT – “Thank God it’s Thursday” is the new phrase Shonda Rhimes fans are saying every Thursday night. If you haven’t been tuning into ShondaLand Thursdays, you’re making a big mistake. Not only do you get to watch fan favorites like Greys Anatomy and Scandal, but you also get immersed in a new drama, How To Get Away With Murder!

Shonda Rhimes is the first African-American woman to have all three of her shows played back-to-back on the same network during the same night. Witness history in the making, and see why you should tune in every Thursday night!

1. Greys Anatomy

Greys Anatomy took fans by storm when it first aired in 2005. The show follows Meredith Grey, a surgical intern who, as the seasons go on, works her way up to becoming an attending surgeon. Focusing on Meredith’s dramatic love life, heartwarming friendships, and the honest brutality of working as a surgeon in a top hospital, Greys Anatomy has elements that appeal to everyone! A unique aspect of the show is that the writers take suggestions from the audience when deciding which medical cases will be featured. The writers also show rare, sometimes unsolvable, medical mysteries based on real-life cases. Currently airing its eleventh season, Greys Anatomy will stick with fans who have watched from the beginning, as well as with those who are looking for something new! Catch Greys Anatomy Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC.

2. Scandal

Scandal faced a tall order, trying to live up to Shonda Rhimes’ previous success with Greys Anatomy, but it certainly didn’t disappoint! Featuring the first African-American woman to star in a television series, Scandal focuses on Olivia Pope and Associates, a crisis management company. Each season faces a series of plot twists, including a secret affair with the President of the United States! The show uncovers the dark side of the government. It tells the story of how one woman tries to see the light in everyone and fix intense situations. Also, did I mention the killer wardrobe? Check out Scandal Thursday nights at 9 p.m. on ABC.

3. How To Get Away With Murder

The newest installment in Shonda Rhimes’ television empire, How To Get Away With Murder, is an instant hit. Following Professor Keating (played by phenomenal actress Viola Davis) and her law firm, How To Get Away With Murder features various court cases that Keating and her five student associates try to solve – sometimes in ways that are not entirely legal. While each episode showcases a different court case, there is a prominent underlying story that keeps watchers tuned in every week! In the pilot episode, it is revealed that Professor Keating’s husband has been murdered. Who did it? We don’t know. Why? We don’t know. But we do know that the five associates are involved! Each episode shows flashbacks from the night of the murder, and each week we try to piece the puzzle together! How To Get Way With Murder is hands down a show that cannot be missed! Tune in Thursday nights on ABC at 10 p.m.
