First off, what are the Golden Globes? The event first started in January of 1944 and recognizes the international excellence of actors and actresses. Millions of individuals tune in to these awards every year. This year wasn’t much different, although it hit an all-time low of about 6.9 million viewers. The Golden Globes were also missing quite a few people this year, some of whom were expected to attend. Who was missing, and why?

Zendaya Coleman

This young actress has already been nominated for many awards, including the Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her work in Euphoria. Her recent work in Netflix film, ‘, was eligible for a Globe award. Many were expecting her role to be recognized in the Golden Globes, given the pattern of recognizing recent or soon-to-be-released films and series. However, it was not. This is currently being called one of the biggest Golden Globes 2021 snubs. Zendaya did not attend since she was not given an award or asked to be a presenter. Instead, she is currently shooting an upcoming movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Taylor Swift

Taylor and her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, previously came to the 2020 Golden Globes for their first public appearance together. After-parties are not happening due to the pandemic so they will not be appearing at those either. The couple is generally trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep their relationship private. They have avoided award shows even if they were nominated. Neither of them are presenters or were nominated for their works at the Golden Globe this year.

The Kardashian-Jenner Family

None of the sisters were presenters or came to the award show this year. Typically, these sisters attended the after-parties for NBC’s Golden Globes, but this year is different due to COVID-19. Due to the majority of award winners not being close to the family, they had decided to stay home for this year.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Reynolds has previously been nominated for a Golden Globe award for his acting role in Deadpool, However, neither of them was nominated this year. They have recently been spending time with their three daughters. Just like many others, there was little reason to attend, especially during the ongoing pandemic.

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra

The married couple was not nominated for any film work or asked to be presenters. Nick and Priyanka are also not currently in the same country as Priyanka is shooting a movie in London while Nick is staying in New York. Attending the awards would be unnecessary, as neither were nominated. Additionally, the event was held in California, out of both of their ways.

The Entire Cast of Outlander

Many other movies and series cast decided to attend the Golden Globe Awards, but not this one. Caitriona Balfe did receive a nomination back in 2019, but there hasn’t been much else since then. The series is currently producing season six in Scotland, so there is a possibility that awards may arise again in the near future.

Overall, there were many technical problems at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards due to many winners speaking virtually instead of in person. Many celebrities who were expected to attend did not come, simply because they did not have a real reason to. This list compiles some of the more talked about celebrities who were expected to attend.
