15 ‘80s Songs That Will Get You Into the Spring of Things

When we think about the ‘80s, we think of the big hair, heavy eyeliner and loud, crazy outfits. We’ve all sung “Africa” by Toto, “Take on Me” by A-ha and yes, “Don’t Stop Believing" by Journey.  These timeless ‘80s classics were present during our parent’s generation as well as ours. Whether we’re out and about at a club or listening to the car radio, to our generation these songs are iconic classics that represent ‘80s music as a whole. From the meaningful lyrics to the amazing mix of melodies and beats, the ‘80s were amazing years for the music industry.

Songs like “Ebony and Ivory” written by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder represent the social injustices that exist in the world and songs like “Faithfully” by Journey narrates the hardships of being a successful artist while wanting to be present with your loved ones. Each one of these songs has not only meaning behind them but tons of history as well.

I bestow to all the Her Campus readers my list of ‘80s favorites, my goal being either that nostalgic memories of singing these songs in the car with your parents will make you reminiscent or introduce you a whole new world of music you have yet to discover.  The list starts off from slow melodic songs to songs that you can turn up in the car and scream at the top of your lungs to—Foreigner, Journey, David Bowie and many more.
