Christmas Cookies to Bake This Holiday Season Based on Your Major

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

With the holidays right around the corner, it’s time to get your oven cranking and timers at the ready. It’s officially Christmas cookie season. Some of my fondest memories of holiday prep are baking a smorgasbord of mouth-watering treats with my grandma, who is a cookie-baking expert (she even has a self-published recipe book). Despite being away at college for most of December, you can still bring some holiday cheer to you and your friends by baking some scrumptious cookies of your own.

I know when I think of a Christmas cookie, a sugar cookie with colorful frosting in the shape of a Santa hat or a Christmas tree typically comes to mind. However, there are so many different recipes that are perfect for spreading holiday cheer. But how to choose? In this guide, I’ll be outlining the perfect Christmas cookie for you to bake based on your major. So, strap on your apron and let’s get baking!

Business: M&M Cookies

I think people tend to assume that business majors deal with a lot of serious and, well, business-like coursework. Break out of that stereotype this holiday season by making this fun, classic cookie. M&M’s add pops of color and a tasty crunch to the ordinary cookie and are sure to put a smile on anyone’s face.

History: Macarons

History majors, the macaron is the cookie for you. The story goes that this delightful French pastry was invented during the Renaissance by one of Catherine de Medici’s chefs. Impress your friends with your baking skills and historical knowledge this holiday season by taking a stab at making this difficult but rewarding little treat.

Education: Sugar Cookies

As an education major, you are always looking for ways to inspire your students to be creative and express themselves. The sugar cookie is the perfect blank canvas to decorate with all kinds of colorful frosting and glittery sprinkles. With your decorating skills, you can take any cookie and make it the best it can be, just like your students one day.

English: Swedish Pepparkakor

English majors, this one is a bit out there. This delightful Swedish cookie is spicy, warm, crisp, and one of my personal favorite holiday cookies. They’re the perfect treat to accompany a hot mug of tea and a good book.

Visual/Performing Arts: White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies

These cookies are sweet, tangy, and tastefully festive. The cranberries make for a subtle, classy nod to the holidays. If a sophisticated winter concert or an elegant holiday art market were a cookie, it would be the white chocolate cranberry.

Pre-Med: Gingerbread Men

Anyone going into medicine has a passion for helping people. Therefore, it’s only fitting that you bake some gingerbread men to ring in the holidays. Bonus points if you snap off an arm or leg and paste it back on with frosting. Look at you saving lives already!

Engineering: Chocolate Caramel Cracker Bars

These ooey-gooey, layered chocolate caramel cracker bars are the perfect holiday treat for all the engineering majors out there. The buttery crackers serve as the cookies’ structural support, so you can put your engineering skills to the test while making this delicious no-bake recipe.

Environmental Science: Spritz Wreath Cookies

These cookies resemble a bright green wreath made from evergreen winter foliage. Incorporate nature into your baking with these buttery, festive morsels.

Psychology: Snickerdoodles

When I think of my psychology major friends, I always envision them in a cozy cardigan with a hot coffee in hand. The snickerdoodle pairs perfectly with this image, adding all the warmth and sweetness you could ever want for a cozy moment. Psych majors know the importance of wellness and self-care, so get cozy with a snickerdoodle this holiday season.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to get into the holiday spirit when you’re away from home. However, activities as simple as baking Christmas cookies and sharing them with friends can surely bring some holiday cheer. Happy holidays and happy baking!
