10 Things to Do During the Holidays on a College Student Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

College students quickly find the semester winding down just in time for gulping venti peppermint mochas and devouring gingerbread cookies. In households and universities across the country, garland is hanging on tree limbs, lights are strung on doors, and stoops are covered with oversized blow-up reindeers. Budgeting for gifts can be difficult when you spend your days keeping track of grocery bills and credit card transactions…here are some easy and affordable ways to enjoy your holiday season while keeping the cost at a minimum.

As soon as December 1st rolls around, you need to find some activities to keep yourself busy because…

1.  Visit all of the beautiful Christmas lights in your neighborhood!

See what other people can do when they don’t need to worry about paying electric bills! Impressive.

2.  Secret Santa is a fun idea because you focus on a gift for one person…

…instead of spending all your stashed emergency money on a lot of gifts.

3.  Volunteering can really make a difference in helping the community…

…and you may actually really, really love it because it’s important to give back.

4.  Invite your friends over and watch Christmas movies all day.

That way you can all use ONE Netflix account. Genius.

5.  Make a collaborative Christmas playlist with your friends…

…to sing in the car, parade around campus, and have 30 second dance parties.

6.  Decorate a Christmas tree by splitting costs among a group of friends, and get carried away with crazy ornaments.

Just don’t turn each other into Christmas decorations. That is what #9 is for.

7.  Dress up in your best holiday clothes and take pictures with your friends.

Show off how festive you can be and make sure you document it for Instagram. #Christmas #Photooftheday

8.  Go caroling door to door…

…studying for finals in the library had you saving your voice for this glorious time.

 9.  Make a Christmas sweater using items found at Goodwill …

…to wear all day, every day during the holidays.

10.  Lastly, remember to tell people how much you care about them…

…because that, folks, is priceless.
