The holidays are already crazy expensive as it is. Why spend any more money on dates when you can have just as much fun doing something simple and affordable? Here are 10 holiday date ideas that you can actually do (so not super unrealistic Pinterest dates).

1. Decorate Cookies. This is a lot less work than it sounds. Just buy premade cookies or those ones you can just stick the oven and add some sprinkles, icing, and whatever else suits your fancy. Lay it all out on the kitchen or dining room table, laying down some paper towel everywhere just in case there’s a little bit of a mess. Put on some holiday music and bam, a fun, easy date that you can eat.

2. Movie Marathon. I don’t think it gets any easier than this. Grab a ton of blankets and pillows, pick a Christmas movie “theme,” like Disney Christmas movies, or Christmas classics, or Die Hard (because those are Christmas movies too), pop some popcorn and watch the movies. You can also let out your inner child and build a fort with the blankets and pillows and watch the movies in there which I totally recommend.

3. Thrift Shopping for Ugly Christmas Sweaters. I like this one because you’re killing two birds with one stone, you’re picking out a probably super comfy big sweater and an outfit to wear to a Christmas party. Plus, you get to joke around with your SO about how ugly some of them are, or even better make it a competition. Whoever finds the ugliest holiday sweater wins, loser buys lunch.

4. Drive Around and Look at Christmas Decorations. Just drive around with holiday music full volume. Pretend like your judges in one of those decorating shows and really just talk about how that’s the cutest Santa inflatable ever or how that house really needs to do something about how they hung their lights.

5. Decorate Stockings Together. Any craft store has all the materials you need for this craft. Load up on markers, felt, paint (if you won’t make a mess), glitter and whatever else you need to create your holiday masterpieces. I recommend decorating the stockings for each other and not revealing it until the end.

6. Test out Starbucks Holiday Drinks. This one is more on the expensive side because Starbies isn’t cheap, but grab your favorite holiday drinks or ones you have yet to try and have a mini taste test at home.

7. Window Shop. Walk around your favorite mall and don’t buy anything. Just point out everything you like and everything you definitely do not like. This is a great way to send a subtle hint of what you want for Christmas.

8. Decorate Mini Christmas Trees. So, you know those super cute little Christmas trees. They’re like 20 bucks. Get one of those and recruit your SO to help you decorate it for your room.

9. Make Peppermint Bark. This is my favorite holiday treat so I guess you can substitute it with whatever your favorite holiday treat is. Here’s a recipe if you want to try it out. The bark is simple and easy to make and is a super cheap and easy gift to give to family.

10. Read Your Favorite Childhood Christmas books. Grab a variety of different books and read them over hot chocolate.
