10 Movies You Don’t Want to Miss in 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

With the start of the new year, comes an exciting array of brand new films. If you’re anything like me, watching movie trailers is one of your favorite pass times and the movie theater can sometimes feel like your second home. With this list, you won’t need to worry about missing any of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2018.

1. The 15:17 to Paris (Feb. 9)

Directed by Clint Eastwood, this movie follows the true events revolving around the 2015 terrorist incident involving an active gunman on a train to Paris. The three heroic men who saved over 500 passengers will be starring in the film as themselves creating an even more interesting concept.

2. Every Day (Feb. 23)

This unique love story is unlike anything else out there. Based off a novel written by David Levithan, this movie is about a young girl who falls in love. The twist? She falls in love with a soul that happens to wake up in a different body every day.

3. A Wrinkle in Time (March 9)

The book we all fell in love with in elementary school is making its way to theaters this year. The story follows children as they travel through galaxies in search of their missing scientist father. Featuring a cast full of favorites like Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine and Mindy Kaling along with its impressive visuals, this film is expected to bring our childhood imagination to life on screen.

4. Love, Simon (March 16)

If you’re a sucker for a young adult rom-com, this film is the 2018 version of that. Simon, a high school boy struggling with coming out, finds himself with the help of his friends. In case that doesn’t interest you, the soundtrack alone is bound to impress you.

5. Ready Player One (March 30)

Based on a near dystopian future, this book adaption centers on the idea of a society that spends its time immersed in a virtual reality called OASIS. From a popular book to a film directed by Steven Spielberg, Ready Player One is a fantasy must see.

6. Ocean’s 8 (June 8)

With the most impressive cast yet, this woman empowering film features everyone from Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock and Rihanna, to Sarah Paulson and many more as they plan a grand heist at the Met Gala. Whether you’re interested in crazy action or beautiful gowns, this movie has a little something for everyone.

7. The Purge: Island (July 4)

A big movie trend in 2018 is prequels and this film is no different. The Purge has become quite the phenomena over the last few years and now we finally have the change to learn what inspired the 12-hour crime-free period that’s haunted us.

8. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)

This movie is playing the role of both prequel and sequel to the first Mama Mia we all know and love. The story follows Sophie as she learns more about her mother’s pregnancy with her. This feel-good movie is the perfect summer movie to inspire endless adventures and wanderlust.

9. Incredibles 2 (July 13)

Does this one even need an explanation? This long-awaited sequel has taken 14 years and I have no doubt it will be worth the wait.

10. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (Nov. 16)

Though this one isn’t coming out for a while, you don’t want to miss this admirable Harry Potter prequel. If the second installment is anything like the first, you’ll be sure to leave the theater eager for a Hogwarts visit.
