With one of Savers 50% off sales coming up on Monday, here are some thrifting tips and tricks to navigate the day!
1. Go through all sections of the store
Every thrifter will say this. Sometimes people try and hide things in other sections, so this is a good way to find some cool pieces. Also, some of my best finds have been in the men’s jeans or sweaters sections!
2. Go through all sizes
I now have clothes from going thrifting ranging from sizes XS to XXL. My true size is a small or a medium depending on the brand, but I think it’s all about fit. That leads into my next point…
3. Try on everything
When thrifting you have to remember that the clothing is preowned, so the fit might be different from the original. Some of the clothing is also older like from the 80s or 90s so the sizing was different and does not match the sizing of today.
4. Inspect the garment for tears and stains
It’s always sad when you find a piece you love and there’s a tear that can’t be fixed. But, if it really is past the point of either you or a tailor fixing it, then it’s not worth it.
5. If you keep going back to the same piece, buy it!
If you don’t grab it, someone else will! Even if you’re still debating on the item, just put it in the cart and save it for later.
6. If you get overwhelmed by all of the people shopping, take a break
Sometimes 50% off days can get overwhelming if you’ve never thrifted before, so if it gets too crowded take a break and grab some lunch!
7. After you collect a pile go through the items and double check that they are what you want
If you go into a shopping mode where you just pick everything up, you might see your cart filling up pretty quickly. It’s a good idea to find a space to go over the items in your cart just to be sure that you still want all of them.
