Psychology major Allison Ferrigno loves giving back, as you can tell from her involvement as a peer mentor and as a member of the community service club. She is one of the kindest and most caring individuals you could have the pleasure of meeting, with a real passion for helping children, Zac Efron, and her West Highland White Terrier puppy, Ranger.

Hometown: North Attleboro, MA

Major/minor: Psychology major/Spanish minor

Year of Graduation: 2016

In what ways are you involved on campus?

Community Service Club, Peer Mentor, Security Desk Attendant

What made you choose to be a Peer Mentor?

“I wanted to find a way to be more involved on campus and loved the idea of helping first-years during their first semester at FSU.  I also liked the idea of meeting other involved students on campus and the weekly Peer Mentor meetings ended up being a great way to do that.”

What have you learned from being a Peer Mentor? Is it something that you would recommend other students applying for?

“Absolutely! I’ve learned so much, from making new connections with other peer mentors, to becoming more comfortable talking to a class full of people, to learning more about every resource about FSU.”

You’re heading to Guatemala in May, could you tell us what that trip is for and what you’ll be doing there?

“I’m traveling to Guatemala with a group of about 16 and Dr. Ludemann from the Psychology Department for three weeks. We will be building houses and volunteering in areas that need us. We will also be bringing shoes and clothing for many of the children we will be working with while we’re there.”

What made you want to be a psychology major?

“It was my favorite subject in high school and I really wanted to learn more about the field. I also liked the idea of the variety of options I had after graduation whether it be higher education or getting a job. There’s so many possibilities with a psych degree that not many people know of and I’m excited to see what the future brings.”

What are some of your career goals?

“My dream job is to be a School Psychologist working with young children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders but I would be happy doing anything that involves working with kids.”

What are your feelings on Zac Efron?

“He’s very handsome.”

Which episode of Friends is your favorite?

“There’s so many to choose from; it’s my favorite show. I would probably have to pick the one where they go to the beach and Monica gets stung by a jellyfish. But I also love the one where Joey is learning to speak French.”

Which Friends character do you identify with on a spiritual level?

Monica.

If someone were to write a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

“I was thinking something along the lines of coffee or dogs or worrying, or something along those lines.”

If you won the lottery today, what would you spend your money on?

“Donate some to Special Olympics, Sidewalk Angels, and take my family on vacation.”

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

“A spoonful of peanut butter from the jar.”

Give us a fun fact about yourself.

“I love cooking so much I almost went to school for it.”

More commonly known as Katy, I am a senior marketing major at Framingham State University. I enjoy long walks to the dessert section of the dining commons, reading into The Wonder Years lyrics, and adding to my growing collection of All Time Low t-shirts (the current count is 26). If you need me, I'm probably napping.
