Dressing for Formal: Where to Buy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

We all know the grievances that come along with preparing for a Fordham formal. While, yes, it’s a fun night to get dressed up with your friends, there are many things that you must do beforehand – nails, hair, makeup, shoes, & worst of all, the DRESS. Whether you’re sick of all of your old dress options, or can’t seem to find the right one anywhere, here are some places to look for the perfect formal get-up:

  • Your Roommate’s Closet. Don’t have the time or money to buy a new dress? Swap dresses with your roommate!
  • Vintage Shops. Looking for something super eclectic & inexpensive? Try scouring through a vintage shop in Brooklyn!
  • Fordham Road. Need a cheap dress ASAP? Walk down Fordham Road for a million-plus options, all at a reasonable price.
  • Rent the Runway. Longing for some very special brand name gear? Rent your entire outfit with Rent the Runway! I used RTR for my Junior & Senior proms & loved the experience!
  • Good Ol’ Online Shopping.
    • Pretty Little Thing, Misguided, & Fashion Nova
    • Tobi
    • ASOS
    • Urban Outfitters
    • Free People
    • Revolve

If all else fails, recycle one of your old dresses! There’s no harm in reinventing an already-worn look!
