The Do’s and Don’ts of Maroon Lipstick #SchoolSpiritProbs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

When Fordham girls want to show a little school spirit, it can be hard to pick a cute and creative way to do it.  Some get a cute bow to put in their hair, others will paint their nails maroon, and others may get stick on tattoos.  If none of these options appeal to you, let me offer a fourth, more glam option: maroon lipstick. A dark, classy lip is always in style, and these dark berry maroon-ish colors are a change of pace if you want to divert from a classic red lip.  Fordham’s Dance Team, known for its lipstick, uses “Media” by Mac ($16 Mac counter or store), but there are a few other options that we recommend including Wet ’n Wild “Cherry Bomb” ($1.89 drugstores) and Milani “Black Cherry“ ($5.49 milanicosmetics.com).

A few tips for using a dark color like this:

  1. Use neutral browns and gold for eye shadow, any other color will clash or be too heavy and dark.
  2. Start with a single swipe base coat, and then add additional coats depending how dark you want the lip to come out.
  3. Use the finger trick to get excess color off the inside of your lip to prevent teeth stains!

Add maroon lipstick to your makeup repertoire and unleash your inner vamp or to go glam at a football game.  Who knows, it may come in handy for the Under the Tent dance too!
