Confession: I Constantly Check My Horoscope

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

I have a confession to make: I religiously check my horoscope. I check the coming day’s the night before to know what to expect, the current day’s in the morning for a reminder, and the current day’s in the evening to see if my day played out the same way. I have books on astrology, and I’ve had in depth discussions with my best friends about whether we fit the characteristics of our astrological signs. My friends and I have even sent screenshots in our group chats to dissect our horoscopes for the day. I know the characteristics of a Libra off the top of my head, and I know when Pieces are born, despite being born under the sign of Cancer. I even know a few compatibility matches by heart and which celestial bodies are in retrograde and what that means for my day to day life. So yea, I’m kind of a zodiac freak.

One time a boy asked me if I really believed all that “stuff”. I replied in my own typical optimistic way, “I think we should believe in as much ‘stuff’ as possible.” Safe to say he rolled his eyes and we laughed at how much of a horoscope snob I sounded like.

Sure there have been days when horoscopes make no sense, but there have also been days when it seemed eerie how much my horoscope mirrored my life. And I’ve never been one to believe in coincidences. Whether horoscopes are true or not, or if the stars and heavenly bodies have any impact on our lives, that’s not the point here. The point is that horoscopes give me and so many others like me, the illusion that we know what the future holds. I think that says more about us than our horoscopes ever will. With all this being said, I have always been a planner so I look forward to that illusion a few times a day. I like to know what to expect and I like to be in control. Even if it’s all made up and it sounds silly, but it gives me peace of mind.

I’ll do anything for a little peace of mind, especially checking my horoscope constantly.
